Currently, when you want to attack a city, you have two options
1) Make many troops and attack.
2) Nuke it and attack.
It doesn't leave much room for strategy. Why not have defensive cannons for cities, and tanks for armies ? Or paratrooper planes for attackers, and AA for defenders ? Or ships for seaside cities ? We should have various unit types, with various specificities and bonusses against other types of units, along with defensive capabilities... I mean, these are very basic ideas, but they would add A LOT of depth to the whole 'attacking' procedure.

We've been knocking this topic around since the game started (literally). It's on the list of things that will be coming eventually. I'm not knocking your post -- it's always good to bump the important topics every once in a while -- just letting you know it's already in the works.
Perhaps I should sum all of the things in feature suggestions up so people don't have to repeat themselves...and know that a lot is coming already.
One thing though...for all the people who really know Google Earth:
GE doesn't know the difference between land and water, so ships for the moment are completely out of the question.
"It doesn't matter if you're landlocked, I'm coming to get you!"
Age of Empires had a funny bug like that. It was so much fun getting ships built on land and then going and attacking peoples buildings and them not knowing what is happening.
