Valentines day.

In some ways my kids have a skewed view of the world.
My oldest is going to visit his GF in Boston this weekend where she goes to college. He is not planning on bringing her anything cause he figures visiting is enough.
And I guess that is from us. Cause I will prob not get the wife anything for it. Not because I do not care or anything, she knows absolutely that her and the kids are the most important thing in the world to me and does not really need flowers to remember it. So he see's us and thinks he does not need to either. Like at Christmas, the wife and I almost never exchange gifts, there is no need. If she wants something I get it for her and visa versa so there is no need to do it just to mark a holiday. But the oldest I am afraid is in for a world of hurt, cause at 20, girls do expect a showing of affection more than coming down to spend the weekend.
It can be hard to grow up in a house where parental togetherness is a fact not an assumption. It skews your view of relationships and though I think for the good, he is in for a few nasty shocks I am afraid till he figures it all out.
And in other news the 11 year old was smart enough to listen and get candy for his new GF, sigh. We have 6 kids and with no modesty at all 5 are drop dead gorgeous. The twins at 8 are already picking up 10 year olds.. sigh. And when HRH Princess Grace is old enough I might need to keep a shotgun by every door.
BTW the one that is not a huge looker has his own style and is a great kid, just he doesn't turn heads the same way, but he so far is the most talented so...

A skewed view of the world? Nah I couldn't think so. Perhaps 5 or 6 years ago. But now he's 20. He knows how the world works, right? He knows girls now. He knows relationships mean you have to go through perhaps even a 100 girls before meeting that one.
As for valentinesday:
I don't do anything on valentines day. I don't believe in it. It's a commercial day. Governments and shops promote it. They mean 'we dont really care about it, we just want you to buy buy buy. Spend all you can. We'll make you think you are not loved or dont love someone enough if you dont'.
Also I dont need 1 day in the year to do something special or to show someone how much I love her. I have 365 days in the year to choose from, and prefer more than 1.Posted 02-12-2011 at 12:01 PM by Luke
