View Full Version : Murder for Geos! Odd Man In game -- 500 Geo 1st prize
This is a combination of my two most favoritest web-based things in the world (that I can post about here, that is): GEWar and Odd Man In (http://www.bengarvey.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=oddeven&file=index). I'm hosting an Odd Man In game where the winner will receive 500 Geos in GEWar.
"What's Odd Man In?", you ask? Shame on you! Go read the FAQ (http://www.bengarvey.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=1&categories=Odd+Man+In&parent_id=0) for all the details, but basically, it's a web-based game where everyone is in disguise and picks the player he wants to shoot each round -- when the round is over (midnight New York time), if you get shot an even number of times, you die; if you get shot an odd number of times, you live. The one left standing wins the game. It sounds easy enough, but it requires coordination and communication (as well as a good amount of lying and backstabbing). Like I said, read the FAQ (http://www.bengarvey.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=1&categories=Odd+Man+In&parent_id=0) and most of your questions should be answered.
The rules: PM me here for the password, then go to http://www.bengarvey.com and sign up. Then, click on the link for Odd Man In and find "Private Games". You'll see a game called "King of the World!" hosted by me. Click "Join", type in the password and you're good to go. The winner of the game gets 500 Geos; 2nd and 3rd get 150 and 50, the rest get nothing. If this works out the way I think it should, this game will be the first of many.
Here are some questions/complaints that I know you're going to hit me with:
Q: What do you get out of it?
A: Nothing. I have nothing to do with bengarvey.com other than as a player, but the idea of this is to get more players crossing over between here and there. That's a win-win for both games!
Q: What if I don't speak English very well? Won't someone be able to pick me out and assassinate me?
A: There will be a lot of players that aren't native English speakers. The main thing is to try not to sound the same as you do in this forum.
Q: But since the rounds end at midnight New York time, don't the Americans have an advantage? I'm asleep/at work/at school/picking my nose at that time of the day/night!
A: There are already a few regular Odd Man In players that live in other countries, and it works out just fine for them. You don't need to be there right when the round ends (it helps, but it's not required). If you really don't want to deal with it, then don't play and don't get the Geos! :)
Q: How do you play Odd Man In? What are the rules?
A: Read the FAQ (http://www.bengarvey.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=1&categories=Odd+Man+In&parent_id=0) already!
Q: Are you playing? Doesn't that give you an unfair advantage?
A: Yes, I'm playing (the game won't start unless I am playing it). No, it doesn't necessarily give me an advantage, because anyone who gives it a serious try can win their very first game. If I win (highly unlikely), 2nd and 3rd get 500 and 150, while the rest get a big 0. If there's a tie for first, the 2 winners get 250 each, then 3rd gets 150 and the rest get nothing.
Seriously, if you have questions about the game, read the FAQ before posting here or PM'ing me. And seriously, Odd Man In is a great game and I think a lot of you will be good at it and enjoy it.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the game isn't going to start (colors assigned and you can set your shots) until the 18th. The first round will end on the 19th at midnight, so you'll have 24 hours to make contacts, pick a target and set your shot. You'll show up as Mr Anonymous until I click the start button on the 18th. Yes, that's a week from now, but I want to give plenty of time for the game to grow to a decent size.
Can I have the bullet planted into your forehead back then? :sealed

You're not allowed to kill me until the game start, Luke :P
His Lord Uberdude 01-12-2006, 02:30 AM OMI!!! w00t! I haven't been there in ages! Got busy with GEWar and all that...well, I'll be back for that! School all dez new peeps. :shoot
His Lord Uberdude 01-12-2006, 02:17 PM *bump*
Gotta keep this over the spam games.
Timmetie 01-12-2006, 02:31 PM Sounds like a nice game!
You still have time to get in on this game. The deadline to enter is 00:00 (EDT, which is UTC-5 or GMT-5 or New York USA) Wednesday the 18th. I'm starting the game right after midnight, so if you haven't joined by then, you're out of luck for this one.
Keep in mind that it costs you nothing to play and all it takes to win is the skill to kill everyone else before they kill you. There are only 11 people signed up right now. It is strongly suggested you get in on this before you miss the chance to win 500 Geos and possibly kill me and a bunch of other GEWarriors in the process.
There are still only 13 people signed up for the game, and we need more than that to make it worthwhile and fun. To make it more interesting, I'm increasing the first prize to 2000 Geos. 2nd and 3rd will get 500 and 200 respectively. Pass the word around to people you know that don't check the forums.
"But birq," you're saying, "the more people involved, the lower my chance of winning will be!" That's where you're completely wrong, silly warrior. The more people there are in the game, the more people you have to hide behind and the more chance you have of making it to the final rounds. If there are only 13 people in the game, it's going to be too easy to figure out who is who and start assassinating people. The best OMI games have at least 20 people, and it really hits it stride when you get 30-50 people.
bulletcrazy 01-15-2006, 05:54 PM More people should really join, especially considering the prize is that huge and there's no entry fee.
His Lord Uberdude 01-15-2006, 06:15 PM Luke, can we get a massive PM to everyone?

Hey, only birq and birq's wife rings birq's cowbell. :D
Time's running out! If you want to get in on this, you have until midnight Eastern Daylight Time (roughly 9 hours and 5 minutes from the time of this message). At that time, I click the start button and everybody is assigned a color and it's too late to join in.
Remember: it costs you nothing and you have a very good chance of winning 2000 Geos and all the bragging rights you will ever need* so PM me for the password now before it's too late!
* Unless you require the ability to brag about something that matters
dwork 01-17-2006, 09:20 PM ... charging the gun ..... aim birq's cowbell..... :shoot
breakout-09 01-18-2006, 01:30 AM Has the game started yet? just wondering if its too late to join
You still have about 5 hours to join, breakout :) so get in quick! :D
T.
It's not 5 hours, but you still have a little time -- about an hour. If anybody else wants in, let me know.
bulletcrazy 01-18-2006, 03:11 AM Wait...I've already pmed you and gotten the password. But by what time do we have to register with the website?(the odd man in website)
Brendo 01-18-2006, 03:14 AM The game begins at the stated time. You have to be registered and have entered the game by that time. You cannot join after the game begins.
Yeah, what Brendo said. You have about 45 minutes to go join the game. 44 minutes...
socrates 01-18-2006, 04:07 AM dang satrted...and I was out to lunch ...
Game started. Good luck everyone!
Good luck to you all!! :)
Birq; is there any way to watch if you arent a member? might be fun for users thinking of joining the next game ;)
T.
bulletcrazy 01-18-2006, 04:34 AM Doh, I'm half an hour too late. This whole time difference thing through me off. Guess I'll have to join you guys during the next round.
Good luck to you all!! :)

Congratulations to Bleak -- the big winner! He gets 2000, Tiberius gets 500 and Zaxxon12 gets 200 despite the fact that he forgot to set his shot for the last round :)
Good game to everyone! (Even BloodyBunnies, who had the cojones to assassinate me)
Edit: Oh, I almost forgot -- is anyone interested in another OMI game? If I get a good response, we can do another one next month.
Bleak 01-28-2006, 04:29 AM I hope I don't get people attacking my cities for this...

I owe someone a groin shot, so I say another round.
bulletcrazy 01-28-2006, 06:05 PM Ya, I want another round. I stupidly missed the deadline, and want in on the action next time around. I mean comeone...how can people NOT want free geos?
