well, evolutionary, the egg ofcourse.

That which we now see as "the chicken" has evolved from some other bird, the gene mutations needed for that are present from birth.

So whatever you see as "The" chicken, started as an egg, with a "pre" chicken as mother.

Why would you trust an archaic fairy tale for scientific information?

Doesn't a scientific explanation require observation or reasonable data that can be observed? We can't scientifically explain half of the things that happened last week, let alone, things that happened more than a few thousand years ago. And since people didn't think to write anything down for a really long time, wouldn't any explanation be a "fairy tale"? I guess, you just have to choose what you have faith in.
