I'm curious how many people would be interested in a backgammon tournament for geos if i organized one.

depending on how many people are interested would determine the tournament type but i'm thinking we could play 10 point matches to decide the winner.

for now let's just see how many votes i can collect.

Seems Like backgammon is a lost art, and as such is lost as far as the youth in this game are concerned based on the votes placed.

i agree that it's not a common game, especially with today's youth, but i brought my little board to university and EVERYONE was interested to learn. i've taught about 10 people so far i'd say. (ages 21-23)

and i think there's more of us "old" guys on here than you might think.

I would play, but there should be a graduated payout for the top 3 or top 5 (or top n, depending on how many people enter) players, not just a single payout for the overall winner.

Then a skilled player has a good chance to win some geos and it isn't such a gamble.

that sounds good to me.

how about:
1st - 60%
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%

there were 9 people interested so far. what type of system would people like to see for who we face off against? if we had an even number of people we could divide into 2 divisions. in each division everyone could play each other once for a certain number of points. the top 2 from each division could all play each other for the prize money.

seems like it could take a while though now that i'm thiking about it.

getting people to an online backgammon site could prove a little confusing too.

thoughts anyone?

I play backgammon a lot in real life, but not very often on computers, even less online... It just doesnt have the same feel... I also dont really play on the main game, and dont need the geos, so I wouldnt partake in a tornament for geos..

In case any of you are interested in a great backgammon game for your computer, check out http://bgblitz.com/ - one of the best AIs available :)

I’ll be up for that, all depends on what time (could be working sleeping etc) might be tricky with what time zones people are in thou :(

We have a tournament every year down here between friends, we usually get a turn out of 20-30 people all battling it out to be the champion for the year! We have even made our own trophy :)
