View Full Version : Quoting
King_Diamond 12-05-2007, 08:40 PM Am I the only one who is annoyed by this? Whenever someone replies to a statement the whole statement is quoted. Even if there is just 1 post in the thread. The second post is a quote and one sentence below it. Isn't that silly? I know sometimes it makes sense, but mostly I get pissed by reading the same again and again. Sometimes a whole thread site consists 90% of quotes.
Stop that guys ;ranting
Everybody who has at least a bit of brain can determine what/who is meant by your post.

LOL... But how would you know that I am responding to you?

He does make a valid point.

Now you guys are just teasing him.
But instead of not quoting, people could delete the sentences that aren't usefull and just keep the part they are actually replying to. Some actually do quote large stories.

Like that, yeah?
Peonboss 12-05-2007, 09:35 PM I actually do not mind the text but I want to smack folks when they include a huge picture more than once. thats just annoying
Red Ivan 12-05-2007, 10:27 PM I actually want to smack a huge picture more than once.
Me too man!!!!!!

--> Everybody who has at least a bit of brain can determine what/who is meant by your post.
So you are actually claiming that brain is missing at my person?
Edit: There are several possibilities you can make sure that you are responding to the right person. Examples:
@Red Ivan
Red Ivan:
To Red Ivan:
Hey Ivan:
With a little creativity you can even find more ;)
Fear4Future 12-06-2007, 09:14 AM And I also hate it when people quote something that wasn't really said
Because 3rdWorld was found cheating since the beginning of the reset, we are forced to reset the game in the next week. Sorry guys. Check your bank accounts as you might receive geos before then.
Like that. It tends to confuse some people. Wait, I'm one of the only people who ever actually do this :(
and i love it when people attack me it makes me fell loved
he he i doubt it
Red Ivan 12-06-2007, 12:34 PM @KD - I'm simply being devil's advocate here. I agree that there are definitely better uses of quoting (doing a blitzkrieg and dismantling someone's hastily posted sentiments one by one), but sometimes it's the simplest way on a convoluted thread of responding to someone. And yes maybe you and I get that I'm talking to you about your last post, but someone happening upon this thread might just be able to appreciate exactly which post of yours I am referencing.
King_Diamond 12-06-2007, 01:15 PM Agree, but at a certain point the thread just gets too complicated. That's what I wanted to say.
Fear4Future 12-06-2007, 01:44 PM Quoting is also irretating in pms, coz then they quote on quotes as well, don't they?
I don't usually quote on one of the last posts, but if the post has been posted a while ago, then I'll quote so that people know what I'm talking about. (otherwise it might seem like I'm responding to something else)
Red Ivan 12-06-2007, 01:52 PM You know what else is nice? When people get in the slow lane when they're driving slow. It's common courtesy, but I don't expect it to always happen. And even though it angers me, I don't expect a policeman to show up and pull them over for being dicks.
That being said, yes, proper use of quotes would be nice, but I'm not going to mod people because they don't conform to the most stringent of forum posting ettiquette.
Melek~Taus 12-06-2007, 01:56 PM King, why is it I am reminded of Ghaal when I see your pict?

lol. That's weird. But I guess you can put it that way. And no, quoting is not something that needs to be modded.
laevus 12-06-2007, 02:04 PM @ RI - Lane jacking is really annoying. Just like thread jacking. But see you I used a delicately recommended response mechanism @KD?
Oh, and @F4F that was a sneeky trick to change the text of a quote. Sneeky.

You know Red....just because you find a mushroom, doesn't mean it's always a good idea to eat it ;101 ....or at least type type afterwards.

Red Ivan 12-07-2007, 03:15 PM Neil Diamond > King Diamond
Neil Young > Neil Diamond
King_Diamond 12-07-2007, 03:38 PM Steven Wilson > Neil Young
Red Ivan 12-07-2007, 03:45 PM Steven Wilson > Neil Young
Noooooo you have to use Neil or Young in finding a Better Than.
Of course, that is impossible since Neil Young is the master. But for instance:
Hot young women > Neil Young
King_Diamond 12-07-2007, 03:53 PM Hey don't quote me ;)
But ok here we go:
Hot young women with skirts > Hot young women
:)
Melek~Taus 12-07-2007, 03:57 PM without > with
;)
WaywardTraveller 12-07-2007, 03:59 PM with (me) > without
