View Full Version : New Jewel Locations Being Added Daily
Mercury 07-23-2007, 09:16 PM New Jewel Locations will be added daily by staff...
We will always use an online source to find the locations, thus you will be able to as well.
www.googleearthhacks.com
www.wikipedia.com

I can give you a hint...some of the ones I just added are UNESCO World Heritage Sites...
As for the others...might want to ask some of the other SuperMods...
cant find Rizal Monument :s
Very educational Merc.
I've simply added places of interest, well places at least - all are known to at least one person for sure!!
Happy hunting ;bgrin
arabianknight 07-23-2007, 09:26 PM i cant find the Sundarbans Mangrove forest its in google earth but the jewel doesnt pop up. We should stop adding . please lets just stop
Well in the end I'd hope to make jewels worth a little more if we keep adding stuff.
And it needed some adding to slow down jewelscripters.
So it was a good idea of shadowdani to kick it in.

It's gone. But merc try to add small things, that mangrove forest is huge and the jewel wasn't exactly in a logical spot, only by tuning in my enormous brain power i found it.

Timmetie 07-23-2007, 09:42 PM No seriously, i lost the placemark as google earth keeps deleting mine but you can find a jewel from up to 30k in the air, just scour the coast there for a minute or so.
Mercury 07-23-2007, 10:15 PM If you guys use the clues I posted and one of the sites, you'll be able to find it easily...I used a placemark to place it...;)

Mercury 07-24-2007, 02:24 AM That sounds like a GE problem...clear out your caches and redownload your jewel kml file...
It happens occasionally...but the jewel should be there...others seem to be able to find it...

Thanks that worked
would it be frowned upon if someone made a new jewel list to include the newest ones? These aren't too hard to find, I've already bumped into a few new ones.
It just slows my jeweling down some :(
DalairHudson 07-24-2007, 06:35 AM well its almost useless right now, it seems every couple hours a new location pops up, untill they stop adding locations your gonna be out of luck or downloading a updated file everyday to jewel

I know. I'm working on a repository of the new jewel locations. I already have 5 I've run into this morning.
//edit
Merc, Ha Penny Bridge might be very hard for some people to find. It's not on GEHacks and doesn't show up in Wikipedia. The Google Earth forums threw out a lot of search queries and I didn't want to go through them so I just found Dublin in GE and roamed around it until the jewel popped up.

On the other hand soon jewel > geo rates can finally go up.
Like a treasure hunt, only this is worth more as you will get the location back a lot.
Finally jewelling could become less boring and more profitable.
will it be more / less than what it was early last round?
grimsacre 07-24-2007, 09:16 AM On the other hand soon jewel > geo rates can finally go up.

Finally jewelling could become less boring and more profitable. This is fantastic news! Now it's going to be even harder for the players who have a life to keep up with the hardcore jewellers. Brilliant!
You can make them less boring OR more profitable - not both. If they're more interesting it'll take longer to find each jewel and therefore give you fewer jewels per hour. If you increase the geos per jewel then you'll skew the game even more in favour of jewellers than you have already.
When I want to do online treasure hunts, quests, etc I can find those in Google Earth community and then they can be a bit of an interesting challenge.
masquer 07-24-2007, 01:26 PM It would be much simpler (for implementation) not to write more or less exact location but use something like "Somewhere in India" :)
Location "Sundarbans Mangrove Forest" is very close to this concept :)
Arctica 07-24-2007, 08:35 PM Amar Jawan - that was a tough one to find. :(
Anyway, here is the location:
28°36'46.49"N 77°13'46.99"E
Hope it helps.

Stop nagging :p.
Remember gewar has been based on GE hunting from the very start.
It's always been tied to eachother: gewar > jewelhunting.
And what's that 1.5 geos(2 geos in the future) going to do for harm when there's a jewel limit each day.
Nothing has changed in any way...jewelspots were added in the past, and we all knew they were gonna be added again. Jewelhunting was necessary to get started always. The only thing that happened in the past is that the conversion rate went down from 2.5 geos to 1.21 geos because everyone had all the locations.
So no rule change here...just back to how it was, with 1 small change: the limit each day. So the ones who have a busy life are even better off as before someone could hunt for 2000+ jewels each day(and trust me some did).
If you want to make it easier for ya...just come up with some good locations.

Good thinking Shadowdani. But it won't take long for them to script the new cities.

how about jewels on the top 10 strip clubs in the world, or something like that
blackdog 07-24-2007, 08:58 PM will the jewel limit ever increase Luke?
will the jewel limit ever increase Luke?
I guess that will depend on what the majority of the users want.
Sunshine31 07-24-2007, 09:07 PM how about jewels on the top 10 strip clubs in the world, or something like that
How do you know what the top 10 strip clubs in the world are ??? :o

That one took a little effort to find. But Blue Grotto is more difficult. It sounds like it is not on Capri. I found another one but no jewel.
This is so much better than the kmz file.
It might be good to set it up to like 20 places of old and 2 places of new.
...... But Blue Grotto is more difficult. It sounds like it is not on Capri. I found another one but no jewel.
If it helps - the country was awarded a George Cross on 15 April 1942?
There is a strong link!!

Blue Grotto is on malta, malta is tiny, go from there.

Your logic is so flawed. You're trying to make jewelling take longer by introducing more locations and then you say those with busy lives are better off. To hit the jewelling limit still takes hours - and very, very few players jewelled for 2,000+ jewels each day.
Yes jewelling was necessary to get started but only to get started. To quote your own FAQ, "Jewels are intended to be used as a way for new players to get built up and to help supplement your income if you just got wiped out." To say that the conversion rate "will depend on what the majority of the users want" is misleading to say the least unless you're planning on a big change in the way you listen to players - when have we ever had a vote on these things?
If some people didn't "nag" ( I prefer to think of it as voicing an alternate opinion - the view from the coal face rather than the ivory tower) then you'd never know what the degree of disenchantment was - until you watch the player numbers dropping. We wouldn't bother posting in the forum if we didn't care about the game.
I'm not trying anything. Didn't even think of this idea.
Just found out it was introduced at the same time you guys did. But think it's great.
What was more flawed? Jewelhunting for the same old 200 locations or jewelhunting and actually finding new places?
The idea was when it started to keep increasing it for as long as possible.
It's back to the where we began.
Like I said before: You can't please everyone....and neither will we try to please everyone.
But I'm glad shadowdani did this...one of the things that bugged me most was the jewelhunting locations....just that old 200+ spots everyone knew for almost 2 years now. Finally someone continues it to complete where it started.
To me one of the greatest new things to the game.
And btw: most features have been talked about on the forum.
Even this one...over a year ago.
No stopping it...no need to even try :)
If you can't jewelhunt all the time shadowdani also introduced the jewel limit so people can't collect 2000+ jewels a day....only 600.
We can see inside the game and see what people actually do so we have a pretty good insight on how to handle it, even when you think things go worse. And after all...activity has not gone down in the years(not counting a day when we really advertised on digg and we hit 1350 users in 1 day) so I don't think we're handling it wrong.
And by now you should've know that if you 'nag' to me, I'll do the opposite. To get your point across, never be sarcastic but just email me with your concern in a normal way.
Sunshine31 07-24-2007, 10:12 PM unless you're planning on a big change in the way you listen to players - when have we ever had a vote on these things?

Grim no disrespect meant here, but let me tell you I have held my tongue over this for the last few days and can not do it any longer. Luke does listen to you guys infact so much so nearly the entire staff have had to go with what you all want at Lukes instructions and I can tell you there has been disharmony because of it. Nearly everything the players want in this game gets input, I do not know many other games where this happens, where the players have so much input in the changes.
Why can you not accept the fact jewelling is here to stay, as it is now you are better off, Luke is correct there were way more players than you can even imagine who jewelled incessantly and I can think of a few alliances who were still doing it nearly up until reset. We had many players who had managed to get over 100k in jewels alone, as it is now there is a cap, and this is to stop the scripting and also to try to appease all the players who complain that they "Have a life".
It seems to me we are never going to please everybody, and constantly going over old ground is not getting you anywhere. We have new locations again to stop the scripters, we have to stay one step ahead of them, if you want to be annoyed at anybody, be annoyed at the ones who would rather cheat and script to gain an advantage and not at the staff who are trying everything to make the game fair by making it difficult for the players who cannot help themselves but by cheating.
General_Zod 07-24-2007, 10:13 PM Blue Grotto is on malta, malta is tiny, go from there.
I found it but it is not on that island Timmetie. Unless that island has 2 different names.
Go from there.... cool....

I hate to stay on topic. But it is on Malta. Every post on jewels shakes my strong believe in the theory of evolution. I'm suprised that off all the sperm you were the one that didn't get lost. I think a special law should forbid you to breed. I'm afraid to say your name because i think it might make me dumber. When god was handing out the dumb, you robbed him and took it all.
And on the other subject, jeweling had to stop someday, well the day is now. I was hoping for maby some things to do instead of it, but stop complaining. The game is in beta, you're going to have to expect some changes.
And on a completely unrelated note, I saw a hot air balloon land on a cow today.
That is all.

I agree.
@ppl Plus people cant just say i have a life implying other ppl dont. I jewel the limit everyday and i manage to hangout with friends work out and enjoy my "life".
So if u guys are gonna make fun of other people u can just leave gewar .
Yes i have complained about new cities but let sstop now and help each other if we need to find a place?? is that so hard

hehe Timmetie. Be nice.
Blue Grotto took me some time, but the direct location is posted on the forums.
I have a database of 30+ jewels ( continually growing) but I'm waiting until my php script is completed so I can auto update a KML file off my servers before it's released.
Last round I averaged 2,500 jewels a day for nearly 4 months (March-July) about 3,000 jewels from Dec to January, and had family probs in Feb so I didn't jewel.
I have a life with work, uni and bar scene. If it is important to you, you will find a way to make everything work.
techtrenton 07-24-2007, 10:51 PM If you want to make it easier for ya...just come up with some good locations.
Here's a thread (http://www.gewar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6291) with a few suggestions. If these have been added, good. I haven't been able to check the jewel file today as I've had to send my laptop to get the electrical plug repaired so I'm having to use another computer and can't access Goggle Earth.

Timmetie 07-25-2007, 10:01 PM Hey, some of the new jewels' locations are too big for the text boxes so I can't read the full thing. also, is this a typo: "Valley of the Kings & queen" ? I'm not completely sure what this means :)
