I'm not sure how many of you recall the old game "Where in the world is Carmen San Diego", but searching for jewels reminds me a bit of that, in that sometimes additional research is required to find out where the jewel is, that is, you can't simply type the hint into GE, you actually have to look it up online to find something else close by.
With this in mind, I wonder if jewel hints could be made of varying degrees of difficulty, with the resulting answer having varying number of jewels to be found?

No, but I do recall the TV show! Oh man that show had the BEST theme song ever (the gameshow, not the cartoon).
"Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? Where in the world is Carmen San Diego!" Yeah!
I learned a good deal of geography from that.

it was a computer game that came complete with an atlas...this was before most people had broadband or google became so prevalent.
Assuming the GE engine can handle placing multiple jewels at a location, this is not only an effective way of making jewel hunting more rewarding for avid hunters, but also would eliminate the ability to script.
NOTE: the abilty to skip to the next jewel is a must, since not all hunters would want to put in the extra effort of searching for other information on the harder hints.
Personally, I think it is wrong to make every jewel hint as easy to solve as doing a search for its gps location...that just makes jewel hunters mechanical turks. As you said, you can learn a lot of geography, but not if all you are research is a GPS latitude/longitude.
