I've seen people using Safari - with what success though??? Not sure whether they have had any problems - not seen any queries!

Could be good news :)

Yeah, it should work fine. It works fine on both symbian and windows mobile (pocket ie and opera), so should work fine on other browsers.

And iphones are a waste of money...unless you value novelty over money like myself. I'd only get one so i can say i have one, there are better phones out there (both windows mobile and symbian based operating systems)

iphone does NOT have 3g (slow internet).

It also doesn't have MMS...

It's overpriced.

The best thing to do is use Opera Mini on any Nokia phone.

Its not 3G:

Wifi, is techincally the orm for smartphones now (N80, N95 have them). EDGE is supposedly too slow for youtube. And Multimedia Messaging is very popular in Europe.

I love the concept, but they are charging a "huge" amount, which other phones do for cheaper.

I will get one eventually Iphone Nano or Iphone 2.0 with 3G and MMS, they are just price disciminating right now knowing that thousands of people will buy it at well above the RRP.

I heard today on the news that the average price of an iphone would be running from 1200-1600 dollars per year with the phone plan included... thats wayyy too much for a phone. What a waste.

nope, data plan is 19.99 a month. phone is only 599 once.

For comparison though, in Britain the N95 (5 megapixel camera, GPS maps, atleast 1GB memory card).

The phone is free, the monthly cost is £25 for an 18 month contract, you get 1200 free anytime, any network minutes. 250 free text messages. And £7.50 a month for data.

You get my point right? It's no wonder Apple is having issues trying to get networks in europe to agree terms with them.

apple does have some reliable hardware and i do like the apple interface.

hehe...the iphone discussion

The only thing that it really has going for it is the interface...even then you can get it all on a windows mobile phone. The disadvantages far out way the advantages. Essentially it is a small (hdd size) ipod with phone and internet

sorry for the double post, but i think it may be important to acknowledge the first nuke launched from an iPhone:

17:33:09 - July 1st, 2007 The city of Port Vila was nuked by brett. 1 defending army(2100 troops) was vaporized in the battle. Gwyndal lost the city.

nothing malicious, i figured he'd take the same opportunity with me :)

Hey, I use the T-Mobile Dash, and it is great for GEwar. It has Internet Explorer(IE), and uses a Wifi connection. I dont think that logging on GEwar using Safari on the iPhone will be a problem. Also, the connection with AT&T and Cingular is improving as someone from the Apple store told me. The service is going to get better because AT&T and Cingular know that the connection in New York isn't as great as it is everywhere else in the United States. They are working on fixing this problem. If you still aren't satisfied with the iPhone or the iPhone connection service, you can either get my phone, the T-Mobile Dash, or you can wait for the new Blackberry to come out which is going to compete with the iPhone which was partly why they made a new model of the Blackberry. AT&T though has the best Nationwide service carrier out there, so you won't have any problem logging on GEwar with Safari on your new iPhone.

I'm really hoping they said more than you posted. Something actually stating how things are improving,

/me does not trust Apple. Continue with your thread.

Of course it'll get better... it's the natural progression of technology. The iPhone is a version 1 software release on version 1 hardware. For me, it's pretty good, but both ATT and Apple will continue to improve the service and software/hardware.

From what I've experienced with the iPhone and Edge network so far:

There are different levels of service on Edge networks. I don't know enough about this technology to give expert opinion, but there are areas where it is blazing fast and others where it feels like dial-up. WiFi is good, but it doesn't support corporate EAP protocols (yet), so it's tough connecting to some networks. I have a distributed WPA2 at home, and it hops seamlessly.

The web-browser is good, but it's a few versions behind the latest safari. There are a few issues I've seen with some cgi apps - but again, at the corporate level. It also does not yet support flash, but I'm not sure I care yet.

It's a great device that I hold at an even greater regard considering it's rev 1 on both hardware and software. For reference consider the release of the Zune to mp3 players vs the iPhone to a Smart Phone/Multi-Media Phone market.

Ummm...why would anyone need to make something to compete with the iPhone? The iPhone is way behind most Windows Mobile phones (blackberry included) and Symbion OS mobiles. It's the iPhone that needs to catch up

FAKE!!! All of them running windoze...

I have been playing with my iphone today and it is amazing! I have set it up so that I wirelessly upload music from my pc to the iphone (wifi access) as there is no iTunes software for Linux and it does not run via wine on my machine.

Setting up mail is a breeze

Overall the device is wonderful, fast response times and once you have jailbroken it there are 100's of applications that you can add.

All in all definitely worth looking at.

Only problem is that it isnt 3g (UMTS/HSDPA) and so far I have only been using it on wifi at home so I am sure I will not enjoy the slow internet speed but ...I will get a 3g model the moment it comes out.

I got mine from the US. With the exchange rate being so ridiculously low today, it is worth asking around who is travelling there to bring one back for you.

Got the Apple bluetooth device as well - another wonderful piece of engineering.

Stay away from the fakes (for now at least) - the ones you posted about are running extremely slow I heard. But I am sure someone will soon come up with a good copy, Meizu has been working on one for some time now....

The problem i currently see is that the iPhone is wayyyy overpriced.
For a mobile phone with extra's it's too expensive.
I have an ipod that can also play movies.
And a mobile phone.

So to get them combined, the price has to be good and it isn't yet.
But thanks for the warning. I don't want a fake one that is just crap either.

I paid $400 for my 8GB model. AT&T sometimes sells refurbished ones at $249 - unfortunately the shop where mine was bought didnt have any at the time.

With the $ exchange rate, mine costs Euro 250. For a phone without a contract, this is considerably cheap compared to a Nokia N95 in Switzerland which costs around EUR 350 w/o contract...

To me this is much more than just a phone. It is an internet device, ipod and mobile phone (i dont particularly care for watching movies. Although I carry hand-bags, I prefer to have just one device instead of 2 (or even more). Although ipods are note the best mp3 players (Cowon's iaudio sounds much better - I have the X3 for when I travel by plane), this is a great device that simply works - and I will be able to live with the slightly lower quality sound compared to my iAudio X3 for casual listening, specifically in the office.

You have to hold one and play with it to see if you can appreciate it. I saw it in Berlin airport a few months ago for 2 minutes and knew I had to have it...

And it looks soooo cool :)
