View Full Version : Absurd Battle Casualities
Gal.Iordanescu 01-04-2006, 10:05 AM Dear Sirs....
Take a look on this :
Your city was attacked by someone.
1 of your armies was killed (along with 9,574 troops) in the battle. 4,386 attacking troops were killed. You lost the city.
::::Whatahell in the world can explain one army of 4400 crushing the defending army with more than 9500 troops ??
There is something really wrong here.
The defending army is much more likely to win a battle for many reasons.
Am I so wrong ?
Gal. Iordanescu
YamuN 01-04-2006, 10:10 AM Yeah i think you are..Not overly sure though.
It seems you are mistaken. If you read it again, it says, 4386 died attacking you. It doesn't mean that only 4386 attacked your city, it could have been like 20 000 of which 4386 died. You will not know, as you were the defender.
Hope that makes sense
*Edit*
When did this happen anyways? I didnt see it in 50 Latest activity. Or was it just an example?
The computer quickly generates a random battle report.. It works on a troop-to-troop basis.. for example:
Defending Troop 1 vs Attacking Troop 1 = defence wins
DT1 vs AT2 = attack wins
DT2 vs AT2 = attack wins
DT3 vs AT2 = defence wins
DT3 vs AT3 = attack wins
DT4 vs AT3...
so on so forth... when it comes to the end it tallys both ammounts of dead troops and shows you the summary, the attacking army may have had another 100,000 troops but you'll never know that because they didnt die!
Hope this explains it!
T.
YamuN 01-04-2006, 10:23 AM Exactly what I said...I think...
Gal.Iordanescu 01-04-2006, 10:32 AM ...OK, so the computer generates a random battle report..
If it works on a troop-to-troop basis, how does the computer divide each group to fight if the army is ONE, unique block of troops ?
Eventhou, in any scenario, attacking troops cannot crush 9600 with only 4400 casualities.
OK, it was a massive attack of 10000000 but only 4400 died.
How come my almost ten thousand died ?
If its ONE-to-ONE, at least about 8000 attacking troops should have been destroyed.
to be continued,
Gal. Iordanescu
Yep, you were dead right YamuN..
I was just explaining why a little better so I can send other people to read this thread when I get asked that question again - I've explained it maybe 50 times via PM and I figured this was my chance to make my life easier

Wow, i have never posted so much in such a short expanse of time

But like in real life the casualties don't have to be 1-1.
In this game I've seen 6000 troops defeat 30.000.
It's about luck at the moment.
But those things have happened in real life too.
You'll see that it can be in your favour too.

I wish I could find this person's old post, but it was like 210:4100 ratio or something
The best one i've seen was 1 guy killing an army of 100 troops.
I posted it on www.gewarriors.com (http://www.gewarriors.com) somewhere.
RomulusJ 01-04-2006, 12:48 PM The city of Calgary, Canada was attacked by varelse66. No defending armies (0 troops) were killed in the battle. 0 attacking troops were killed. sage lost the city
I'd heard about it but till I seen it
Gal.Iordanescu 01-04-2006, 12:49 PM Ahh.....
Luck has to be part of the game, that makes sense indeed.
Maybe in the future there should be details enough of each city, to determinate whenever it benefits the attacker or the deffender.
Some places, due to its geography, are more likely to be attacked by others.
And vice versa.
cheers,
Gal. Iordanescu
iricigor 01-04-2006, 01:27 PM I have analized latest 500 events (10 times "latest 50 events" page). Thats about last day and a half.
Worst ratio (defender/attacker troop loses) per page (50 events) is from 2.34 upto 4.00!
Ratio of 4 was just a 5 troops loses, but next one worst ratio was 3.83
The city of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia was attacked by Frogger. No defending armies (405 troops) were killed in the battle. 1,550 attacking troops were killed. Beatjunkie retained control of the city.
So your ratio of 2.18 is far from worse.
P.S. I have automatic calculation, I was not doing it myself one by one.
p0wderfinger 01-05-2006, 02:19 AM Woot, okay I found it:
What about this attack pattern:
Attacker size: 5100 troops
Defender size: 5012 troops
Defending army lost 557 troops.
Attacking army lost 110 troops.
Defending army lost 67 troops.
Attacking army lost 707 troops.
Attacking army lost 718 troops.
Attacking army lost 485 troops.
Attacking army lost 318 troops.
Attacking army lost 613 troops.
Attacking army lost 411 troops.
Attacking army lost 608 troops.
Attacking army lost 719 troops.
Attacking army lost 62 troops.
Attacking army lost 349 troops.
wow, that's 10 Attacking in a row !! the probability is 1/2^10 = 0.0009765625 :(
Attacking army killed (palau63750).
killed? smashed!! :p
The city has held, with no loss of armies.
...armies are dancing and drinking beer at the moment
Defending army info updated successfully.
yeah, well, some defending troops died of laugh attack :(
City data updated successfully.
why bother??
A message has sent to that defender to let them know what happened.
lol... please don't tell SqueaL!! this is way too embarrassing :o
A message has been added to that city page to keep on record.
stop making fun of it! pleeeease ;)
HAHAHAHHAHA nice ;) :evil

mystiquesupra 01-06-2006, 04:56 AM Thought this was odd, I have seen some bad stats before..... but this takes the cake
The city of Miami, Florida, USA was attacked by dasphinx. 1 defending army (7,585 troops) was killed in the battle. 322 attacking troops were killed. Ken Shabby lost the city.
It's not a bug, though. Extremely bad (or good depending on who you are) luck and highly improbable, but entirely possible.

Yeah, you might say so :(
I would say that's ridiculous.
Here is an example of it swinging both ways...
15:20:12 - December 16th, 2005 The city of Antananarivo, Madagascar was attacked by Tukamotton. No defending armies (2,441 troops) were killed in the battle. 1,350 attacking troops were killed. Chappy Dawson retained control of the city.

Put that in your (collective) pipes and smoke it

Hellman109 01-06-2006, 01:33 PM Unles you know the troop numbers involved in the attack, using info from the latest activity screen is pointless.

What about if it was 7,585 Vs 25,000?

Brendo 01-12-2006, 05:58 AM Didn't know where to post it, so I thought I'd put it here. Not really a bug or anything. Just a battle casualty thing
The city of Bangkok, Thailand (http://www.gewar.net/war/city.php?city=52) was attacked by Entropy (http://www.gewar.net/war/playerinfo.php?user=232). No defending armies (6 troops) were killed in the battle. 1,097 attacking troops were killed. TheUltimateMaster (http://www.gewar.net/war/playerinfo.php?user=601) retained control of the city.

Incidently, those 6 troops have been given a ceremonial burial.
THEOtheGREAT 01-12-2006, 01:30 PM  One real life example !!!------->LEONIDAS from sparta and the 300 defeated more than 100000 men in the battle of Thermopiles!
This a real history battle!
so its a good think the attack defence thing to be random!!!
bulletcrazy 01-12-2006, 01:44 PM Yes, a battle that has been remade into far too many hollywood movies.
Gen. George S. Patton 02-01-2006, 04:14 PM Your city of Charleston, West Virginia, USA was attacked by gadget. 1 of your armies was killed (along with 5,072 troops) in the battle. 945 attacking troops were killed. You lost the city.
Generic42 02-01-2006, 11:45 PM Your army Move out was attacked by chengdigger outside the city of Regina, Canada.Your army was killed in the battle. 5,914 attacking troops were killed.
I had 13k in that army :'(

Yes its historic if you take a spartan's word on it.
Generic42 02-01-2006, 11:55 PM Are we supposed to believe 300 men do that?
wandweaver 02-03-2006, 09:17 AM Are we supposed to believe 300 men do that?
300 Spartans - and over 4000 Greeks (mainly from Athens, from memory).
For some reason, the other Greeks get forgotten and the 300 Spartans are immortalised. They did hold off 200,000 men at some stage - but they did lose eventually.
The Greeks were all killed, and the casualties of the Turks were about 10000-30000.
Casualty wise - Thermopylae was no more "freakish" than the initial day of the First Battle of the Somme during WW1.
Mercury 02-03-2006, 01:32 PM 14:31:44 - January 9th, 2006 The city of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil was attacked by Mercury. No defending armies (764 troops) were killed in the battle. 4,030 attacking troops were killed. Nicholas retained control of the city.
THEOtheGREAT 02-04-2006, 09:46 PM TO answer to wandweaver yes it s true that... the Athenians and the others from the Peloponese plus all the helpers(slaves) were in the batlle too,but nevertheless the SPARTIANS holded untill the last one and killed thousands of persiansno turks...and the reason they were immortalised is that SPARTA had the best fighters and athletes at that time(You should read, learn something before writing it down, casualties innacurate..to much Hollywood I think)
ps: today a good one before taking CONSTANTINOPLE back I attacked with 1100 and he lost only 174 ;)

Firstly, yes - you're right - Persians, not Turks. Forgive me - I was working on memory of the ancient history classes I took about 8 years ago.
As for the casualty numbers - a quick glance at Wikipedia confirms that I was not too far off. Unless, of course - the Wikipedia people have had "too much Hollywood" too.
Shadownation 02-23-2006, 04:03 PM I don't think this thread should be in 'Bugs'...

Well, it was a dead thread, so it didn't really matter.
Here, I'll just do this instead:
