View Full Version : Hunt For Airplanes (Redux)
xorgthezombie 04-04-2007, 08:40 PM Alright, some of you may have seen my last game before I deleted it. This is a different version of it. This is a game to find the coolest aircraft on Google Earth. There are four categories:
Longest
Most Colorful
Weirdest
Most Hardcore
Longest and Most Colorful will be judged by me, and Weirdest and Most Hardcore will be judged by the security council. The prize for each will be 200 geos.
The rules:
1. There can only be one entry per person
2. A person can only enter a plane for one of these categories (and must specify the category they are going for).
3. Once a person has submitted a picture, they may not change it. Anyone who edits their post will be disqualified. If you forget to say which category you put it in, PM me, and I will change it. (To keep people from posting a different picture if they are one-upped.)
4. An entry must contain a screenshot centered on the aircraft, and coordinates centered on the aircraft.
5. Fake Bonus Points to people who identify their entries.
So, pick wisely, and good luck!
This competition will end April 12th at 12:00 AM EST
Don't worry....if all is working correct, people can't edit their posts in the official games for geos :) (except mods).
xorgthezombie 04-04-2007, 08:43 PM Oh? Perfect then! Game on!

Melek~Taus 04-04-2007, 11:08 PM I submitted two, but the Lancaster is the one I am using under hardcore. I mean how often do you see such a beauty. Stick and rudder, the way a plane is meant to fly. If you havn't noticed I prefer WW1-2 era planes. More character in them?
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g93/I_Melek_Taus/Lancaster.jpg
The second one is a joke. It is the longest, but not "airplane"....more like paper.:p

Melek~Taus 04-05-2007, 01:03 AM Think my lancaster has had more hardcore days than the blackbird? The bullet holes would make it hardcore;bxing
socrates 04-05-2007, 03:01 AM category Hardcore
C-5 Galaxy being refueled... in mid-air by a KC-135.
I think anything more hardcore would be a fighter bomber on an attack run !
How do you calculate lenght .. do we count all planes in the picture or just individual planes, or the lenght of the plane and the shadow ?
ahh what the hey.. lets count this in as Lenght Category too ! The C5 is not as big as the Antonov, 2nd in the size category unless someone has a pic of the A 380.
picture is too big to fit... you guys will have to be happy with the KMz; Sorry
ghetto bob 04-05-2007, 03:15 AM The Airbus A380 (73 m) is 11 m shorter than the Antonov AN-225 (84 m). The Boeing 747-B (76.4 m)is second. The Lockheed C-5 (75 m) is definitely third longest. The Boeing 777-300 (73.9 m) is fourth. The proposed Airbus A350 will come in at 73.8 m if it ever goes into production.
Generic42 04-05-2007, 03:55 AM Two planes in one here, the one in the upper right is bright red, and goes in colorful, the bottom left houses a tiny one going under the "weird" category.

Also, all the normal white planes are your typical 2-4 seater Cessna, to give you an idea of the grey one.

Damn right! :D
What a movie......"instant classic" as they say. Like instant coffee.
inpassingonce 04-06-2007, 09:40 AM Flashy colors don't give an old school Bomber like this the dread when you'd see it flying over you, or the hope as you see it continue on to fight off your enemies.

People on these forums don't take kindly to triple posters......
I accept responsibility for it, guys - as I introduced him the game, and forums, I should have told him.
(edit....hmm)
Sunshine31 04-08-2007, 02:43 PM Its ok Suicidal he is new and would not yet know that, I will merge his posts for him.
@Geordie Suicidal is correct please could you use the edit button rather than treble post, however on this instance just put it down to being new. :drinks
ghetto bob 04-08-2007, 03:52 PM Geordie, please use the edit button!

Maybe donuts are different? I can't.
Generic42 04-09-2007, 12:15 AM Welcome Geordie, glad you made it from the ad thread on Steam! It wont let you post links until you've gotten more posts under your belt, though it seems the problem's solved with coordinates anyway.
And fluteflute, you can't edit your post? That's odd, 'cause the rest of us can :p
brobie 04-09-2007, 12:31 AM I think people that are in the Security Counsil can edit their posts in the OGFG....which is a mistake...that Luke had said he knew about.

Here is a plane I found while looking at my house on google earth... ya... the plane is headed toward a house.... which is mine. The house at the tip of the plane is mine... i'm on the flight path of SJA airport. For some reason, i can't post an image... even off of image shack.
hope you like it!

Generic42 04-12-2007, 09:54 PM I'm sorry to interrupt the aeronautic enthusiasm, but what what's with the row of hyphens?
Melek~Taus 04-12-2007, 09:56 PM He fell asleep on his keyboard again ;lose
Xorg....are you judging this one soon?
xorgthezombie 04-12-2007, 10:22 PM Yeah, I'll judge it now.
xorgthezombie 04-12-2007, 11:04 PM Joeduces and Generic have been disqualified for not posting any (visible on Gen's) coordinates, and mbr has been disqualified for posting after the deadline. The winners are:
Colorful: dtwapdubs
Longest: Timbo (with 83.51m)
Most Hardcore and Weirdest will be voted upon in the security council.
Thanks to all who participated! More will be coming out in the future!
Melek~Taus 04-12-2007, 11:10 PM Didn't Timbo get the longest first? Same plane as smirk? Just curious on it....
xorgthezombie 04-12-2007, 11:15 PM Try out his coordinates. They don't bring you to the plane. Technically, smirk420 followed the rules about that plane first.
ghetto bob 04-12-2007, 11:15 PM Didn't Timbo get the longest first? Same plane as smirk? Just curious on it....
I concur... :stop
He posted the photo with the correct coordinates on it, probably didnt know that wherever your cursor sits on GE changes the coordinates.
I thought you were the leader of a n00b alliance...
xorgthezombie 04-12-2007, 11:21 PM What do you know, Timbo did include the correct coordinates (sorry, smirk). Thanks for being diligent, guys. Oh, and I checked it out, he accidentally posted a "W" instead of an "E"...
socrates 04-13-2007, 01:13 AM oh mine was 2 planes... guess you can't count it as longest... :(
well since its after the dateline...
and I can't put anything else in to win....
here's something I found ...
an F15 with Canards !
High Manouverability Test Bed 34°56'50.69"N 117°53'11.13"W
and some V-22 Ospreys.
34°56'10.48"N 117°53'20.32"W
Yeah all at Edwards AFB.
Tried looking for Burt Rutan's White Knight or any of his plane designed... and found
32°30'27.36"N 111°19'6.33"W;
Beechcraft Starship
all good for wierd planes... dang late again
xorgthezombie 04-13-2007, 01:30 AM damn, those are all really cool!
GeordieRacer 04-15-2007, 05:32 PM Who won the weirdest plane?

Still 3 days to go.
socrates 04-16-2007, 09:18 AM damn, those are all really cool!
You mean if I submitted those on time, I could have won something ?
Melek~Taus 04-17-2007, 05:04 PM As per words in SC about hardcore. All I need to say is this.
How many shots of the blackbird(a beauty of its own) are there in GE? How many are there of it flying? Look at the Lan, how many are there around, and flying? The fact that it's a WW2 plane that's STILL flying makes it hardcore. It's takin a likin' and it still around and kickin!
You ain't hardcore unless you can kick some ass! The blackbird has no armament to speak of. Lanny boy came armed to the teeth and ready for a fight. Ask the boys who flew em...
Cheers,
I vote for myself(as per the question in SC) ;banana

fluteflute 04-17-2007, 05:56 PM Sorry mate, the competition closed five days ago (rules (http://www.gewar.net/forums/showpost.php?p=87333&postcount=1) ). Long name! :)
And we can't see that picture on your C:\\ drive unless you give us access to your PC! :)

GeordieRacer 04-19-2007, 05:55 AM Did I win the weirdest plane category then?
socrates 04-20-2007, 03:07 AM Did I win the weirdest plane category then?
not yet... but I think you're a shoo-in...
if only I added my links on time...
socrates 04-20-2007, 04:01 AM I was looking around the Guppy that Geodieracer put up...
if you go south west a little
53 32'15.68"N 9 50'3.72"
You can actually spot a Guppy being loaded... nose hinged up and all
socrates 04-20-2007, 04:07 AM sorry bout this post... total lack of an edit button.
My bad. Geodierace's link is a Super Guppy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Guppy).
The plane I found being loaded is the Airbus Beluga A300-600ST (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_Beluga)
aww....
iverson3 06-28-2008, 04:25 PM Hi all while browsing the forums i found this game. And since most likely theres new planes in there, I would like to see how many participate. I will judge them on length(wingspan), color, and difficulty to find (if you find a black airplane over the ocean then thats hard)
I will give away prizes for each category. The prize will very on how hard the plane was to find, and I will be searching GEHacks for planes that are on there so do not duplicate those. You may submit as many pictures as you want in all categories .
Have fun.
BTW you may not duplicate last times pics, they have to have Coordinates, and must be airborne.
techtrenton 07-01-2008, 12:08 AM Is there a limit to how many we can post or what?
iverson3 07-01-2008, 12:21 AM Is there a limit to how many we can post or what?
