How about rewarding a user for taking a city - Call it a thankyou from the city occupiers for freeing them from the previous dictatorship. :)

The reward could be a number of things.

Geos

Get anything between 1 and 1,000 geos

Jewels

Get anything between 1 and 500 jewels

Nuke

Get a nice shiny missile

Nuke Shield

Free nuke shield

Troops

Get between 1 and 5,000 troops

Invincibility

Give the city invincibility for a random amount of time - Only the city occupier would know how long. During this time the occupier will loose no armies/troops regardless of the attack - Army/Nuke.
Exception would be a natural disaster .
This would give noobs the chance to rebuild armie etc.

The reward should be random regardless of the size of the city. So someone could take Tokyo (36,510,000) and get a reward of 1 troop but someone could take Alice Springs, Aus (28,178) and get a nuke or invincibility.

Thought I would share it.

Interesting idea, spoils of war kind of thing.

Quite realistic too actually.

I think I like the concept.

Unfortunately it is open to tricks.
Alliance members would just make deals with eachother to overtake a city and cash the cheque.

Good point. Let me think about that part of the problem for a while.
That's kind of a show stopper for a lot of potential (benders of the rules).

Aha!

Well, for this particular feature anyways, I have a solution.

Good, AND bad random things.

You might find a stray nuke in a city, or you might find a boobytrapped nuke in a city.

You might find a free nuke shield in a city, or you might find the cities nuke shield is irreprable.

You might win between 1-5k troops, you might lose between 1-5k troops.

Spices things up, could be a lot of fun, can't be abused!

Then maybe later add some sort of special troops you can purchase for a fee or something that you can use to occupy a city first that would increase your chance of getting a good bonus. But make it such that that type of army only has 100 men max, has to occupy city first, and requires a set amount of time to 'sweep' the city, making it vulnerable while they're trying to ensure a good bonus.

First part would work fine without the latter part too though.

THAT'S kinda cool. As soon as you step into the city, oops, there's a nuke in the basement! KABOOM! :shoot

Aliens - I like it, they could abduct your whole army and dump them somewhere else on earth ! :D

I also like the good/bad random things.

Rewards would not be given for occupying an abandoned city, or if the city is passed from one alliance member to another.
The problem of alliances using non alliance members would still need to be addressed.

Doesn't matter, let them. The more often you do it, the more it evens out. No profit to be made as long as the chance of something good happening are the same as something bad happening.

The last sentence makes this almost impossible to do...
I like the idea, really...but even with the good/bad, the rich ones would just keep on using the trick, because it won't hurt them real bad, but a free nuke is still a big gift to do it for.
But from ideas like this, always spin other ideas so maybe we'll get to something eventually.

Have some random BAD things that can happen that would affect a percentage of your entire holdings, if you didn't send in a sweeper team.

Plague, alien disease, cultural mass suicide, mass deffections (political unrest), hacker infiltration (finances) etc.

Maybe tie in ration of percentage hit to player versus occupying city population. Big city, bigger badness could happen.

Thus, the bigger you get, the wiser you'd better be when taking cities. And it would be VERY bad to just swap cities for the heck of it. If you could possibly lose 2/3 your troops for one mistake, quite the deterrent.

Make finding a viable useable nuke a rare occurrence anyways. Very rare.

Very, VERY rare. Though extremely hilarious. In fact, half of the time, nothing should happen at all.

random things should probly only happen if the city has had the same owner for at least 48 hours that way people can not just keep swapping all the time.
