View Full Version : Alliance Tourney
Blitzkrieg 01-16-2007, 12:24 PM I am running an interalliance tournament for geos. I have decided Luke is going to pay. (He's good that way, otherwise this tournament wont work - And I pre-empted Luke's involvement in the "Atlantis" game, so I hope I'm right again) (though it only works if your name is pink). Here's the plan;
Every alliance that wants in registers in this thread.
I will randomly set up the tournament, with a few rounds and then finals.
The gameplay;
Send an army to my homebase (near Japan). It doesn't matter how long it takes to get there, but perhaps alliances should choose their closest member to Japan for the tournament for eases sake.
You will be given an opponent, when both armies have arrived, either player will attack their opponent (it doesn't matter who). Whoever wins the battle wins the round. Your army must be 100 troop only. Name your army the round number you have chosen to use it in.
For example, Brave New World vs Red Dwarf
Red Dwarf would name army RDvsBNWrnd1 - or something simiar so it is easily recognisable to either player (BNWvsRDrnd1 for the BNW player)
After the attack, the attacker will send me a copy of the results in a PM so I can keep track of the results and post a leaderboard.
If you send more than 100 troops, you will lose by forfeit and give maximum points to your rival (+100 troop difference). It is visible because either the rival attacks you and sees more that 100 defenders, or you attack and win, but lose 130 troops in the attack - Therefore you sent more than 100...
Points, 3 points for a win with more than 40 troops remaining, 2 points for a win with less than 40 troops remaining, 1 point for a loss of less than 10 troops.
Example of results:
4 Alliance AO, BNW, RD, ODA
RND1: AO 77 troops def BNW 100 troops (AO gets 2 for the win by less than 40, and +23 troops difference, BNW gets 0 and -23 diff)
RND1: RD 96 troops def ODA 100 troops (RD gets 2 for the win and +4, ODA get 1 for a loss by less than 10 troops and -4 diff)
RND2: AO 100 troops lost to RD 54 troops (AO get 0 points and -46, RD get 3 points for a win by over 40 and +46 diff)
RND2: BNW 79 lost to ODA 100 (BNW get 0 and -21, ODA get 2 and +21)
The leader board with 1 rnd remaining before the knockout shows:
Alliance____ Points_____Difference
Red Dwarf___5__________+50
ODA________3__________+17
AO_________2__________-23
BNW________0__________-44
Mathematically BNW cannot qualify for the knockout stage even if they beat RD by more than 40 as either ODA or AO will score points which will make BNW 3rd at best. But it should be easy to see what is happening.
The more alliances that participate the better the tourney will be, and the higher I can twist Luke's arm for the payout. It doesn't matter if this whole process takes a month. We can run a discussion thread alongside this thread whilke it is running.
Ideally I will set it up with alliances in groups of 4 (Football World Cup style (or Soccer)) as the qualifying round would take too long otherwise. but will play with figures to find the best way to make it even for everyone.
After the qualifying round, a knockout round will commence depending on how many alliances participate to how many knockout rounds.
Easy - slightly confusing, but really it is easy.
Any questions and alliance nominations, please post below.
*CONFIRMED ALLIANCES* 3rd Army, Judean Peoples Front, Red Dwarf, Alpha Omega, Brave New World, NO

Generic42 01-16-2007, 01:02 PM How much money is paid out from this now?
danqueca 01-16-2007, 01:08 PM I was expecting a flash tournament, but this seems very interesting, there should be an entry fee to give to the overall winner...
Gen. George S. Patton 01-16-2007, 01:20 PM 3rd army is down, especially because it will give us a chance to see how wide the dispersion is for troops lost when two 100 armies attack each other.
Games Master 01-16-2007, 01:34 PM Ill pay the winners, let me know Blitz... :cheesy
thesarge 01-16-2007, 01:36 PM JPF are in !!!! ( in 11 hours !!!).
fluteflute 01-16-2007, 03:50 PM How much do we win? Are cell alliances allowed to join?
othafa 01-16-2007, 04:45 PM Ah well, the best ideas, like cream, float to the top, I suggested something similar last year and it bombed, except I suggested people could only use one army for entire competition and so it was up to them how big an army they sent..since winning each round would mean you could potentially fight 5 battles the size of your army was crucial...and could lead to some epic battles!!
Suicidal 01-16-2007, 05:18 PM Points, 3 points for a win with more than 40 troops remaining, 2 points for a win with less than 40 troops remaining, 1 point for a loss of less than 10 troops.
This confuses me. One point for a loss of <10 troops?
if u have less than 10 troops left
Mister_Flay 01-16-2007, 07:12 PM I'll be in for Red Dwarf. Church of Blitzkrieg, amen!
Presumably it's a different army for each round, or...?
dic101 01-16-2007, 07:31 PM do sister alliances count as the same or separate? ie: can we have 1 army rep from AO and one rep from AOR ? (yes, i know how much some of you hate sister alliances)
Blitzkrieg 01-16-2007, 07:55 PM Payouts, I'm thinking it will be reasonable......
15,000 for winning the tournament
6,000 for runner up
3,000 for winner of 3rd place playoff.
If the overall numbers are a bit low, I could allow cell alliances. I would prefer to open it up to indies first and maybe cells just to fill a couple of places. First come first served basis.
It is a new army every round (100 troop). Just send your winning remaining army to one of your cities or throw them against a nearby town (I doubt your 20 or so troops will make much of an impact)
Play will be 1 round at a time, and I will post leaderboards after each round (probably allowing 2-3 days for armies to move and the attack to occur).
Don't worry about the entry fee, Luke's paying :) - Well Games Master is...... snaps his fingers and it appears out of thin air.
Any other questions?
*EDIT* I will start posting an edit on post 1 about who has confirmed as playing.
danqueca 01-16-2007, 08:09 PM BNW is in, and if it is possible BNWarriors also....
indienestmonnom 01-16-2007, 08:13 PM NO is in !
RossoCarne 01-16-2007, 08:19 PM STARBUG!
;bounce ;bounce ;bounce
Blitzkrieg 01-16-2007, 08:21 PM STARBUG is Red Dwarf, No?
danqueca 01-16-2007, 08:44 PM Does the contenders have to agree to a time?, or is the attacker the first one that sees his opponent?? you said that it doesn't matter who attacks, but i think it would be better to have both players online, and that both PM you with the result, just to double check...
Pestilence 01-16-2007, 09:41 PM Does the contenders have to agree to a time?, or is the attacker the first one that sees his opponent?? you said that it doesn't matter who attacks, but i think it would be better to have both players online, and that both PM you with the result, just to double check...
seems to me like a more concentrated rabbit hunt game that wayward does
Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 06:23 AM Does the contenders have to agree to a time?, or is the attacker the first one that sees his opponent?? you said that it doesn't matter who attacks, but i think it would be better to have both players online, and that both PM you with the result, just to double check...
No it doesn't matter, and I'm sure once I post the results up, if any shennanigans went on (doctorring the result), it will come to light.
Ie. If ABC attack XYZ and lose leaving 28 troops you would get the result:
Your army XYZvsABCrnd1 was attacked by PLAYERNAME outside the homebase of Blitzkrieg .Your army was not killed in the battle, but you lost 72 troops. 100 attacking troops were killed.
Then he reports to me a copy/paste and doctors it to show that he won. The other player would most likely check the result of the battle themselves and then post a challenge to a result, very easy for me to verify the result and change the table (with a penalty for cheating, most likely disqualification with maximum points given to the rivals in the group even for games already played if applicable. But that will be up to me at the time (it may be a tactical to try to cheat to help an allied alliance in the same group....)).
So in short, to answer your question danqueca, no both players don't have to be online - as only one can attack anyway......
Anyway, it will all be ok :)
Keep posting your nominations, you don't want to miss this!!!!!!!!! Possible 15,000 geo payout for no outlay is a BIG deal!
Indies can post their nominations too, cell alliances are still up in the air........
Hugh Bain 01-17-2007, 06:36 AM The Angry Dwarf is in for some fun ;club
Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 06:47 AM *CONFIRMED ALLIANCES* 3rd Army, Judean Peoples Front, Red Dwarf, Alpha Omega, Brave New World, NO, Angry Dwarf, New Alliance
*CONFIRMED INDIES* Grimsacre
*POSSIBLE CELL ALLIANCES* Alpha Omega Recon, Brave New Warriors, Red Dwarf STARBUG *To be selected randomly if needed to even up numbers*
Keep the nominations coming, remember, you don't need to be the player for your alliance the whole game, as long as the army is named right, it doesn't matter who sent it (from the alliance). Therefore if the alliance is keen, post your nomination now so you don't miss out!
Also Indies are now allowed - but only well known indies, you cannot leave your alliance to enter, I will be checking and allowing for others to object.
Cell alliances will be added if needed only - ie. I have 14 alliances/indies nominated, 16 is an easy number for the tournament, I'll throw your alliance names up in the air and pick 2 at random.
savvy?
thesarge 01-17-2007, 06:52 AM When is round one ??? plus need more time for round 2`s and 3`s army to get there !!Thats if i need them LOL ;smi551
Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 07:07 AM When is round one ??? plus need more time for round 2`s and 3`s army to get there !!Thats if i need them LOL ;smi551
You will. Ideally, I will set it up the the soccer/football World Cup Groups of 4 with the top 2 going through to the knockout stage.
I will probably run the group stage with a 2-3 day gap between them. Plenty of time for anybody to move an army to Japan, or send an army to somewhere near me and the travel wont be as far.
Round 1 will be called, when I feel I have enough nominations for the first ever "GEWar Alliance Cup".
that BNW shall win ;smi551
Games Master 01-17-2007, 07:42 AM Once the players are decided i will start a book, and take bets on the winners.
thesarge 01-17-2007, 07:49 AM that BNW shall win ;smi551
Wanna bet He, He, He, He. :nana
Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 07:55 AM Well now we are an "OFFICIAL" Game for geos!
And we have a betting bookie :)
I have decided to cap the tournament (GEWar Alliance Cup) at 16 teams. (Unless overwhelming nominations come in)
Add New Alliance (on my behalf) and we have 8 Alliances and 1 Indie registered to play.
Places are running out!!!!!! Get in Now!
Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 08:02 AM New rule:
If a rival doesn't send an army:
Normally, the defaultee would receive maximum points 3, +100, and the defaulter would receive 0, -100.
This could be exploited or someone could be paid to throw a game.
What will happen in the case of a default is I will attack the present army with 100, the defaultee (the player with the army present) will get whatever points and diff the result deserves, and the defaulter will receive 0 points and -100 diff.
That way you cannot just default a max win to another player to ensure qualification to the knockout stage (assuming you either have already qualified or cannot mathematically qualify).
If there is a default in the knockout stage, the defaultee wins the match.
No exploiting my maths!
Pestilence 01-17-2007, 11:30 AM I will represent NA in this fiasco of bloodshed. One question though Blitz...what if the attacking army loses? Do we send another army to finish the job?
spartacus 01-17-2007, 11:57 AM I nominate the United Nations in the game.
tHE_fOOL 01-17-2007, 12:11 PM I'm in for Vulture II, how many armies do I need to send?
Games Master 01-17-2007, 01:40 PM 3 I recon...one for each round if you need them all.
tHE_fOOL 01-17-2007, 01:43 PM 3 I recon...one for each round if you need them all.
perfect, that's how many I sent, though it doesn't really matter since it's only a 40 minute trip between my HB and his

Blitzkrieg 01-17-2007, 10:06 PM Starbug is registered, but as it is a cell of Red Dwarf, it will only be used if needed to even up numbers. (Can't have 2 Red Dwarf alliances in the tourney, not fair on others)
Joedeuces124 01-18-2007, 12:58 AM Starbug is registered, but as it is a cell of Red Dwarf, it will only be used if needed to even up numbers. (Can't have 2 Red Dwarf alliances in the tourney, not fair on others)

Blitzkrieg 01-18-2007, 11:12 AM I'll put you in as an independant, it certainly appears that you aren't leaving for numbers in the tourney.

What I did to work out the groupings is use the post number that all the nominations came in at (and then used 52 and 53 for two PM nominations) and then tick the list off by counting the number of the nomination down the list and crossing off the alliance as it was used. Basically - random.
I will start a new thread to deal with the actual competition. Keep an eye out for round 1!
DO NOT ATTACK UNTIL YOU ARE GIVEN YOUR OPPONENT OFFICIALLY.
ALSO DO NOT ASSUME ROUND 2 UNTIL I POST ROUND 2'S RIVALS.
Generic42 01-19-2007, 05:34 AM DO NOT ATTACK UNTIL YOU ARE GIVEN YOUR OPPONENT OFFICIALLY.

spartacus 01-19-2007, 09:46 AM ..send me your bets..
I think I missed something. Can somebody explain this? And what are the odds?
Games Master 01-19-2007, 12:16 PM I will offer 15 to one on the winner, 7 to one on second place and 3 to one for third. You bet and ill pay ??? :love Max bet of 100 Geo`s.
king_monkey 01-20-2007, 01:00 AM Dont you think its better to also run a player competition?
Ok this is the best way i can explain something like this, its like OMI, you have people any random people (probly have to put a limit on the amount of people) these people could be from the same alliance or not even in an alliance, they all send a single 100 man army to a homebase and they all sensisley attack each other using there 100 man army's, but the twist is that you could make pacts with other players. Lets say there are 15 people so that means 15 army's, but only 10 members can go through to the next round, the pacts would create a big twist and you wouldnt want to be the first person to attack, because you may win but get attacked by another player. The pacts could be broken to create some sort of cheating, (im sure you can figure out how that works, i am to lazy to explain it).
tHE_fOOL 01-20-2007, 01:04 AM Dont you think its better to also run a player competition?
then why don't you set it up at your home base, Blitz's is kinda in use right now. sounds like a good idea, except for the whole pacts thing, that part would mean that a big alliance could just have everyone send an army and smash everyone else making it end up being who has the most members

Well noone would attack.
The first person to attack would then (assuming he even won) be very weak and would then be picked off by the next person to notice it, and so on until the 5 trigger happy idiots were destroyed.
I could do one with individual players, but for now, I'll run this 16 team tourney and see how it plays out.
Too many players will be a lot of work..... *EDIT* unless it was a straight knockout, but then you would need the right number of players, 32, 64 or 128 for example.....

king_monkey 01-20-2007, 10:01 PM a way to make sure the game didnt last your years, would be to set a time limit, say 24 hours, that way everybody could get a chance to attack or not to attack, i think its best that if this is going to happen then we should wait until this alliance cup is over, to much confusion otherwise
