View Full Version : Battlestar Galactica!

I recently had my birthday and my siblings got me the entire Indiana Jones Collection for my birthday. Now, to me, Indiana Jones is one of those movies that I can only watch once a year and our library has them all. I decided to take them back to Walmart and bought two movies. The first was Jim Gaffigan's Beyond The Pale (One of the funniest stand-up comedians of all time!) and the entire first season of the new Battlestar Galactica. This is probably one of the coolest shows of all time. If you haven't seen the show it rocks!

I prefer LOST. Much more fun!
I'm not a huge fan of science fiction(people with masks on and stuff), but I've seen every episode of BSG.
To me at the moment simply the most amazing thing on tv. Yes, I would even go as far as saying I enjoy it more then 24.
But then ofcourse I was even a fan of the old BSG from 1978(not seen it then, I was only 2 years old. Seen it later).
This series is better then the old one in story though. And ofcourse in acting and music. Simply amazing, and I don't use that word a lot.
The best thing about it is what I find lacking in a lot of series: the story.
I can say that I definetely don't like Lost.
I watch it still, but don't enjoy it. It's because it's pretty obvious the writers have no idea where to go with the story. They just make something up as they go along.
Probably most series work that way, but in Lost you can see that a lot of the times the writers are lost themselves. All the series does is create more mystery, and fill 2/3 of the show with flashbacks because this works with the audience.
People like mystery and character development...but when a show does little more then that, and it becomes obvious it will one day just be cancelled on a cliffhanger without any ending or explanation(like the Blade series of last year), I become annoyed. Even if that day is years and years away.
BSG, 24, American Dad and Doctor Who are the only series I still really enjoy watching.

I do enjoy BSG. It's one hell of a fragging show. As for Lost, ya I agree Luke. I think the writers are more lost than anything....They forget so many plot lines it's not funny. As for shows that are big for now....
Heroes, Jericho, 24, coming in last...Lost. This doesn't include cartoons mind you...
Oh...Luke, I figure your a 76er? Welcome to the club of Dragons I guess ;)

You might not know it, but we have BBC1,2 and 3 also ;)
As for BSG, American dad, southpark and 24...I just download them a day after they are broadcasted in the USA.
I also watch Torchwood but it hasn't gained my respect as much as it's big brother Doctor Who.
I never did get into watching BSG.. I'm not a big science fiction (of that degree) person. I enjoying watching things that are more realistic, like say 24 and The Unit

Yeah, can't stand BSG, but I must agree, the Unit and 24 are a couple of my favorite shows, among Seinfeld, the Office, Frasier, My Name is Earl, and Scrubs.

Never seen BSG, but heard much about it, not just here, and not just good.. but what is good? Mythbusters. I love that show dearly, and hold it close to my heart. Adam, Jamie, Tory, Carrie, and Grant and my friends ;pet
Mythbusters is funny though :D.
I've been to the creation of one of the episodes in Holland.
Because it was in a town near where I live. I can walk there.
And I was already watching the show before it so I went to see how things are on the set.
Ofcourse as everyone suspects it's all staged :p.
But that's no surprise.
There was this comedy show on MTV that pulled a prank on them in Holland also.
They made the table really move by itself and put ghosts on their tapes...scared the **** out of them.
But it's a little offtopic.
The thread I believe was about an already(not counting the 1978 and 1980 series) legendary show called BSG :)
drama in space. war, emotion, sex, story that isnt predictable...

And acting like you don't see a lot in TV series. Especially Gaius Baltar's psychotic yet emotional acting.
You don't have to be a sci-fi fan to like it. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but still love BSG.

Edit: Woah i've already posted in this thread ;baddy
So for the one out of a few shows I do watch:
Eh did I miss something?
Anyone watched the latest BSG?
It kinda went fast.
So without giving away spoilers you'll have to select the rest to see it:
Is starbuck really dead or a cylon?
There is just too much going on about her destiny to really let her die right?
Well we saw her explode so she's either dead or one of them...
Anyway...awesome epsiode....Lost writers could learn something of that.
I've only seen upto 3x14
Well then skip the next 2 episodes as they were crap(filling episodes) and watch this one :).
Just don't select the lines in white or that will really spoil it.

Don't read stuff in white (possible spoilers)
This seems like another radical change in the show. I hope it works if they are really going to ..., it seems too easy to me? I guess if everyone is going there, then it should be interesting... IF it isn't a hallucination that Apollo saw Kara.
I bet the president's stuff is from the drugs she's on and maybe because she got that Cylon injection to keep her alive before?
Lots of questions, it should be interesting if I can wait that long. ;bgrin At least SG is starting up again (hopefully the last season will be decent and SGA will OK).
I'm sure we could make some good videos with this to pass the time,

Yes, Doctor Who!!
I haven't heard anything about Caprica, I'm not really sure how much I'll be into it since it's supposed to be a bit of a prequel.
Gruss
I like the idea of a prequel showing the life on Caprica before the cylon war.
And as the writers of BSG are very good in drama, it could become a drama/sci-fi show.

As for Kara, in an interview she gave out a bit too much info in one of her interviews a while back(letting people know of her impending death). The fifth could be anyone, as we see now, there are 4 more in the running. Kara could have died and come back if she was a cylon. She doesn't necessarily have to be the fifth.
As for a prequel or sorts...
If they do, let's hope they don't go the way of the original series and soap opera it. It's good now, but they will have to do something completly different from that of now.
WWWTFFFF with the last episode... WoWWWWww.

Yes she would have to be, as it was said there were only 12 models. If she wasn't the fifth, there would be 13 right? Then the story wouldn't be correct right? ;nopom
ps: I wouldn't recommend reading this thread if your gewar theme is set to have a dark background :D

No, as far as I can tell we know of 12 models
1- Number3(zena)
2- Number5(aaron Doral)
3- Number 6(blonde)
4- Number 8(Asian)
5- Number ?(brother Cavil)
6- Number ?(Simon, black man)
7- Number ?(Leoben, starbucks husband/prophet)
8>12- 4 we saw from latest episode, plus starbuck?
--------------------------------------------------
12
I would like to note the significance of the number 12!....
It's amazing how often that number appears througout our history and religions(past and present)
I mean if you say Kara is a cylon, but not the fifth cylon but yet another one...that would mean there would be 13 then which according to the story isn't so.
But it could very well be that they won't tell in the start of season 4...this Kara we saw could just be in his head. Not saying she won't be back...but just saying that it could very well be that this Kara is a vision. ;95

Who makes it the 13th then? Look at my list and tell me who I'm missing? If correct then the 12(including Starbuck) are there, if there are 13 then who am I missing? Not sure.
There aren't 13 ;).
Not according to the story.
Just 12.

Exactly, so my list has all 12, now it's a matter of who the 5 are(including the 5th). If SB is one then the other four are on the list. It's just a matter of deduction. Most probable are the four we saw just now, plus SB = 5
EDIT...
My god are we geeks!!?
@Jaz, how is my counting wrong? They show 7 of them plus the four we saw last episode, plus one more = 12. if the one is Starbuck ....who's the extra?

Good! I'm glad they are going to cut it off now rather than what the original series ended up doing. This way it ends on a sort of high note. One addition, I heard that they may to another BSG show based on New Caprica before the cylon attack? Perhaps the initial war or just at the end of? Not sure but it would be cool? Land and space based wars between the humans and cylons? Hmmm?

How do you mean with the original series?
As far as I know that only had 2 seasons.
1 season finding earth. Second series where they found it and were trying to make sure the cylons didn't find out.
Don't know of a series about New Caprica, but I do know of a series named Caprica that is about before the first cylon war. It should air next year.
The serie Caprica was initially designed as a series that had nothing to do with BSG. It wasn't even supposed to be named Caprica. It was a sci-fi drama. But producers saw a lot of similarities in the story and brought the 2 directors together.
And so a new series is a fact. About when cylons were still walking toasters helping the humans on Caprica. And a very young soon to be Admiral Adama.
Melek~Taus
05-11-2007, 09:25 PM
Original series....that's what I meant. They had a "movie" for the show, then made the series. It should have been taken off much earlier. It turned into a type of soap opera(sorta like V). The Caprica series was shelved, however as BSG drew a large audience they probably might try to keep it alive with a new series.
I think the series was on too short.
The original series only had 1 season.
The second season was a cheap spin-off with different characters(no starbuck or apollo). Even BSG original fans just pretend that never existed.
The original series was only about 18 episodes or something. Remember it was a long time ago. For that time, the special fx were awesome. It was cancelled because it was too expensive.
Leaving fans with the question how it would end.
Even the cheap spin-off BSG 1980 didn't answer that.
Atleast if this one ends, it won't go the Lost way. You'll have a beginning and ending without a show being cancelled during a cliffhanger(example: Blade The Series).
Melek~Taus
05-12-2007, 12:17 AM
Similar to one of the great Sci-Fi shows...
Too short, too expensive and should get back on air NOW!!!! unfortunatly despite fans reviews I don't think it will? :o(
Space: Above and Beyond
BSG Moore was on tv in a dutch tv program.
He claimed he never said it would end with season 4.
He said one of the crew said that indeed, but that same person also said the same of season 3.
He said it might even be hard to end it at season 4, because a lot would have to happen.
Both the growing of the new cylon characters, the discovery of both the new inhabited planet(possible spoilers) where the music originates from, the discovery of earth and the "defeat" of the cylons.
He said it might indeed end at season 4, but there might still be a season 5 to wrap it up without hasting things.
He wouldn't drag the story as they had an ending in mind from the beginning. The obvious goal.
Melek~Taus
05-16-2007, 06:56 PM
...the obvious goal....
Unlike Lost :D
Back to BSG, I think I remember hearing J. Olmos talking about this being the last season possibly(2008). As for future shows it would depend on what they can do in the new season? Oh well, it's summer time now so TV is at the bottom of my list....
Except Hockey of course. Woo hoo! game 4 tonight! Clean sweep? Hope so!
Hmmm summertime....march and april was great here(every day between 20-25 degrees Celcius)...but now it's cold and rainy for almost 2 weeks already...so tv for me if I wasn't so darn busy these days with other things.
But I hardly think 1 season would be enough to give a satisfied ending.
They already start the first 2 episodes of season 4 with a new character from the Pegasus, and flashbacks from Adama. The episodes will be centered around that.
Then there is the new planet and the new inhabitants and the mysterious music.
You'll have a few episodes of that.
Then ofcourse all the episodes needed to see what happens to the 5 new cylons.
Then ofcourse to see why the human/cylon baby is so important.
And if you want them to find earth you might have the final episodes for that.
If they want to end it finally with the cylon defeat it would be really hasting everything and that would be unfortunate.

Unfortunately it's only in a few theatres in America.
If someone is, could they please tell if it's good or not without giving away any spoilers? :)
The cut movie will also air on november 24th at scifi, and the uncut is coming to dvd.

It's not Star Trek :).
No scientific stuff or anything. They kept it in a way that it's watchable for all.
No lasers....no monsters...no teleports....no weird outfits... just a soap opera/thriller with a sci-fi background.
They were even aiming for female fans.
It's very unique, intelligent, compelling and the acting/music/effects are awesome.

Anyone seen Razor yet? Either downloaded(oh no you didn't) it, watched it on scifi or rented/bought the dvd? Thought it was great. Especially the dvd version which was about 20 minutes longer. Including a short battle on the ground in the style of Saving Private Ryan.

Ya, saw it a while back. Did a good job. Loved how they brought back the original cylons. Ah, now all we need is a special appearance by the original Starbuck, ur uh face.
Let's not :D.
I saw how he looked these days.
Let's not introduce a grandpa that still thinks he's hot :D
His old days in the series were good, but he did turn the series into a comedy.
The 'pilot' of the original series that started it all was also pretty dark, much like the new series. But in the old series they kept moving towards comedy as they progressed.
The last episode of the original series(BSG 1980), even showed Starbuck trying to survive on a planet with a cylon(an iron protector, the old toasters). The cylon who usually says 'By Your Command' in a tin fashion, even helped a woman give birth(hilarious scene with an iron cylon running with 2 buckets of water after hearing Starbuck scream that the 'baby is coming').
It was surely all funny, but turned the series from the dark where they started into a comedy show.
This new series stayed dark, or even became darker now(toasters cutting people apart with small knifes while trying to create the next evolutional step).
Though too bad it's only one more season, atleast we'll get an ending. Much unlike the old BSG series.

Haha, I'm reminded of the STNG scene with Worf helping a birth. Obvious joke about SB, they did bring apollo back though. The old one went soap opera, which sucked. This one as you said is darker. Which is why I think it's lastest. Hopefully 10 years from now(depending on the strike) the next season will be as good as "razor"?
Well they sure now had the time to write something good for the final season :)
And to those still thinking the old season was better, and they shouldn't have changed the sex of some characters(some from male to female etc), here is my example:

The big question is if he is activated yet...
Anyway.....anyone frustrated about the way they are doing this season?
10 episodes now....then 6 months of rest and then letting the series end in 2009!
The start is good...and besides the slow episode 4, the rest has been going really fast forward. Perhaps too fast even. The break-up between the cylons could've gone slower and more intense. And after seeing Razor everyone knew this would probably happen.
It's great that it's back....but only 10 episodes now? Commmmoonnnnn.

Show separation....a lot of shows are doing this now it seems. This way they can sorta make 1 season into 2. A **** off but at least their showing it. I agree, the civil war of cylons could have been streched and made more interesting but again meh!? I think there will be a cylon revolt on the galactica as well sooner or later. Info will be revealed and boom, war between them. So far so good, but after razor, it seems to be lacking something? Wait and see I guess....

Break out your frakkin' credit card if you want a piece of Battlestar Galactica. (http://www.battlestarprops.com/)
Talking about BSG...the actor playing Chief Tyrol told part of how the story would go... don't select the text if you don't wanna know(even if it hasn't been confirmed it is the truth):
The final five were actually cylons from earth. That's why they have been to earth. They are actually from there. They were not only created there, but they were part of the colony on earth as it was before earth was destroyed. That is also why they heard the music when they got close. They are not multiple cylons like the others, but a whole other kind of cylon.
During the big war on earth, they escaped and returned to the other colonies, and wiped their memories or they were wiped.
When the cylon told that Kara was the harbinger of death and would bring them to their doom, he actually meant she would bring them to earth, and therefor certain death.
Leoben said: All this has happened before, and will happen again. Counting for several things, including the creation of the cylons and the wars.
So is Tyrol just telling a fun story, or is he actually speaking the truth?

seems plausible, we'll see, only 10 more weeks till the final episodes start
Wooohooo it started again. And seems Tyrol was actually telling the truth
And it was confirmed that the fifth cylon is indeed the one revealed at the ending of the episode.
I liked this episode. Very dark one. Kara's discovery was something I did not expect. Nor what Dee did. Bring on the next :)

You want real spoilers? I can give you those :D
1) Starbuck found her own dead body on Earth.
2) Dee finally has a happy moment again, and decides she should step out of life at that moment, while she is happy...as she thought it would probably be one of the last times
3) We say bye bye to D'Anna Cylon, as she's staying on the nuked earth
4) We find out Ellen(late wife of Tigh is the fifth)
And some rumours that have not yet happened
4) Zak Adama, Bill Adama's dead son, will reappear near the end
5) The old-school Cylon models will also reappear before the end
6) Tom Zarek will die, but will take a lot with him
7) It will be explained how Starbuck came back from the dead, and it's supposedly 'sick'.
I dare you to read them :).

TV really sucks, and those w4nkers always make breaks of several months between seasons.
so I never watch the last episode of each season, until the new season is aired.
that way, I always see the 2 episodes toghter (usually, the last ep of a season is continued in the first of the next).
that way I dont get more mad and frustrated at those retards who keep us waiting for no good reason other that share.
And thats why Im at the 9th ep of season 4 ( Im gonna watch th 10th and the 11th today)

"ALL will be revealed" the latter one says.....hmmmm
One more day to the start of the finale :). And one more week till the ending of the show. I'm hyped :). For a lot this story started in 2003, but for me it started in 1978. Finally a conclusion to a story that even bring in youth memories.
Some rumours that might be spoilers:
Starbuck and Baltar are children from Daniel, the 13th Cylon. That's why they could 'project' and see. That makes them both half-cylon. And that also means they are brother and sister and they have actually had sex.
Roslin dies from cancer during the attack on Cavil. Baltar dies defending Adama when the cylons take the already dying Galactica. Adama stears the Galactica into the cylon baseships.
The fighters and centurions turn on Cavil when they notice what he did. Also the old cylon models(1978 series and Razor).
They get the coordinates for a habitable planet that Cavil knew from the centurians. They name it Earth, and that planet will become what we live on. And in the end we flashforward thousands of years ahead in New York where Six is walking around.

Ya I can't wait to see how they end the season. Sad, I'd love to see an "earth" part of the show and the integration. But as we (us older folk) know from the past, when that happened on the original, it kinda flopped like "V" did. Too soap operaee.
Less than 24 hours to go...haha 24
All this has happened before and will happen again. Slogan from BSG, and it's true: BSG was created before, and now again.
But more news is that it might be recreated once again. Apparantly Glen A Larson is in talks with Universal to create a movie for the big screen(or several) to recreate BSG Blockbuster. The story would again start from the beginning. With a different cast and would follow the original storyline instead of the new BSG. Most likely he just wants to turn Starbuck into a girl-fancying dude again :p

the 2 hour finale is gonna be awesome...
Theres a special on starting Monday night too:
Battlestar Galactica: The Last Frakkin' Special
Viewers are provided with a comprehensive summary of important events and crucial revelations throughout the entire series, aimed at refreshing the memories of fans as well as educating newcomers before the highly-anticipated final conclusion.
I had to rethink last episode. The writers always do the opposite of what you expect. I didn't expect the episode to be a huge flashback. Near the ending I expected more action.
But on the other hand it was a very good way to take everyone back to the beginning, and build up the emotion towards the finale. They will probably work towards goosebumps and tears for the emotional viewers, and then an episode like this will most likely work.
Also some actors already said a few months ago that the finale will be like nothing anyone could expect. Which could ofcourse also mean that there's no happy ending.
Woooooot. Not long now before the ending of a perfect show.
Seems now the rumours I posted above are all false. So that makes it more exciting as I have no idea where they are gonna take it and how to explain all in the last 'double' episode.
The main question should not be if they survive, find a new earth or rescue Hera.... but if we finally see Tricia Helfer naked! Come on, we've been waiting for that for 4 seasons now.

What the frak? Just came home and watched it. Ok in white then, as there is something I don't understand and maybe someone can clear it up:
So starbuck was actually really dead all along since season 3 when she flew into the storm? What was this then? Her spirit or an angel? And the inner baltar and six were also angels? Well as someone said before, BSG was never about big space battles, but about space soap opera. And we certainly got that in the finale. A lot are moaning they wished it to be otherwise, but the creators also said they would end it in a mystical way, instead an open and shut case.
I am looking forward to the dvd of the finale, that is supposed to be much longer.

Caprica and Battlestar Galactica rule!
Lot of girls(and some guys) refuse to watch because they think it's typical science fiction(lasers, humans with lots of make-up to make them look 'alien'). No weird aliens, no lasers. Just normal guns, nukes, romance, soap, betrayels and shooting people out airlocks :)
And a couple of walking toasters, but thats the only weird thing(and how long will it be before we have those on earth, judging from some robots I saw on the Discovery Channel a couple of weeks ago).

I fell in love with BSG back in the late '70s when the first movie came out in the 'new' sound format - It was amazing to watch (and hear) on the big screen. When the series came out I sat glued to the TV. I have, as yet, to watch any of the newer series - strangely enough, it was the 'new' starbuck that stopped me from watching it. I didn't like the gender change, (And Dirk Benedict was YUMMY, lol).
I thoroughly enjoyed Caprica.
Starbuck
05-25-2009, 02:48 PM
I never saw the old series with the male Starbuck so I wouldn't know how he was lol but I like the female one, she is awesomeness :p
And I also loved Caprica...
A lot of fans of the old BSG didn't watch because of some gender changes(Starbuck and Boomer most important).
I loved the old BSG, and was thrilled to hear that in 1999 there would be a BSG: the Second Coming(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQNk6VMg9xs). Unfortunately that idea was cancelled before it started.
I have to admit it took me a few episodes to get used to the new BSG of 2003, but when I got used to it I saw it was actually much better of a show. Much smarter. Admit you fans, the old BSG was plain cheesy entertainment. Entertainment, but just humour-action in A-Team style, in space. The new show offers much more in acting, music, writing(story and dialogues) and characters. Not even talking about the Special Effects yet, because for an old 1978 show, BSG had great special effects back then.
