View Full Version : small island countries
dreadpr 12-31-2005, 12:06 AM Mentioned this in passing in a city syggestion post but thought I'd throw it open for discussion:
A number of small island countries have very small populations but wouldn't it be fairer to recognise that if you control the capital you probably control the whole island? The Fijian pop (around a million I think) would be a fairer return for Suva imho (currently worth 167,000).
The South Pacific has a lack of big valuable cities but making the smaller islands worth a fraction more would make it a far more volatile region.
Places like Tonga, New Caledonia, Samoa... representing them as one super city (per island chain) doesn't rob the game of anything and only makes these exotic paradises a little more desirable.
Thoughts?
mitsubishievo_6 12-31-2005, 12:47 AM Sounds a fair idea to me!
sickre 12-31-2005, 10:51 AM Only if I can keep control of Noumea :evil
I reckon thats a pretty good idea. New Caledonia only has a population of around 231,000 people, so its not an incredible markup.
Blitzkrieg 12-31-2005, 10:57 AM Yeah, I agree to a point. In the case of some island nations that have lots of islands, you are giving a population to the whole nation, maybe just limit it to the particular island the town is on. Makes them worth a bit more.
Sickre - it's just a database alteration, not change of ownership required.
Actually, Luke flies me out there and the locals shower me with gifts and put me up in fancy hotels trying to lobby a higher population value. :D

Orion1015 12-31-2005, 11:02 AM I actually like the idea......***thread moved from Feature Suggestions***
Up to Blitz,,,,,, :)
Blitzkrieg 12-31-2005, 11:05 AM It's a realism issue and can open up a can of worms though.....
fence sitter blitz.
dreadpr 01-01-2006, 10:19 AM I can see your concerns mate, but could we somehow define an island or small chain of islands (probably by pop size rather than island number) to implement it?
I'm happy to leave it - I just think there's more merit in recognising the smaller islands and making them a tad more valuable. But hey, if you want to keep the bigger players away from my neck of the woods then that's fine too. I just think it'd be fairer and also address the slight imbalance of value the South Pacific currently has.
YamuN 01-01-2006, 10:37 AM I think that is a pretty good idea, it has a purpose, and is simple. Although, maybe when controlling a island\capital city, in the city list, it would recognise the smaller cities inside? just a thought.
Blitzkrieg 01-01-2006, 12:49 PM Actually if it's acceptable to include urban agglomerations (where two large cities are too close to put both in, we put it in as one BIG city), then the island population can figure with this quite easily.
I'm for it again :o
I'm all for it blitz, go for it :) Higher populations dont hurt, means more income!
