alright, first off I appologize for putting up a stupid thread, but here it goes...

Does anyone else here watch Jericho? If so, just wondering if it scares the hell out of you in a way? I mean the thought of actually seeing that for real? Anyways, just thought I'd ask...

Cheers,

I think you can watch the first few episodes online there?

It not scary like "boo" more a put yourself in that situation scary. I watch it and wonder how I would react to seeing this. Imagine seeing a mushroom cloud over a city, or... Just imagine looking in your backyard now and seeing one. How freaked would that be?

Hm, that could be pretty freaky, but not really scaring me.. I guess Im not really watching it with full attention though (hooray homework ;icoffee)

If you are able to think like you were the person seeing it, you can somewhat feel what it actually would be like. And yes watching it makes it easier....

TV takes away our imaginations often...

I tried to like it, but I have a hard time with shows that insult my intelligence. There's no thought of physics, or any actual real science, or any actual reality, for that matter. I so wanted it to be a modern version of Alas Babylon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alas_Babylon), but, once again, TV disappointed me and tried to tell me I was stupid.

Heroes, on the other hand, is turning out pretty good. But that's off-topic.

Right...I assume most have seen so.....

I found the ending of the episode a bit "happy"? I was waiting for them to start singing coom-bi-a....

Just a thought. Right, well we know it rained, and that the rain was radioactive. Now, would the corn be suitable to eat after only 9 days? I think there would still be some fall-out in the area or at least soaked into that corn? If anyone knows this please let me know. Cool EMP explosion though in the air.

He explained it that the leaves (or whatever) on the ears of corn protected the corn from the rain, and because the corn was ready to harvest the roots would not have taken up the ground water. (something like that anyway, but he did explain it very loosely)

Missed that part I guess.....oh well at least they tried to explain :)

Still, good show. Lots of mystery and action. Damn I can't wait to find out who America launched those ICBMs at? And who was responsible for the initial "attacks."

Now I'm hooked on two shows so far. Jericho and Heroes oh and Lost. 3 shows and that's it. I don't think I need any more tv than that...at least till January....24.

It's kind of funny how you can see the mountains off in the distance. I've lived in Kansas. There ain't no mountains in Kansas. Even in the far west where that's supposed to be, you can see any mountains.

I know, it's nitpicky and it's Hollywood, but still, they could at least try.

Melek~Taus
10-27-2006, 07:38 PM
Sorry Flay....I thought you were referring to my post about Battle of Britain.

As for Korea....not sure? Problem is, if it were an outside attack and this were based on real abilities of the US, then NORAD would have seen them coming and hit them before they landed(or at least some), also, if they knew they were coming you can check the tragectory to get an idea of where they did come from. I have a feeling that the exposions were not bombs, but Nuclear power stations that all went off for reasons unknow(terrorists?). Could be bombs, but I think that the defensive abilitiy of America would differ. Next, note the number of targets. North Korea has only 1-2 short range bombs. Most countries that have Nukes can't reach america(hostiles). Only one country is an unknown in their abilities and that's Israel.

Countries that it could be;
Russia, Somewhat likely, (though taking the cuban missle crisis as example, war is NOT what they look for)
UK, not likely
France, To afraid too :nana
China, most likely
India, Not able to reach
Pakistan, Not able to reach
N. Korea, only has a couple

I really think it wasn't bombs though....

Some say that "The Wall" is based upon WWII, and more specifically The Battle of Britain.
Actually saw an interview with Roger Waters once where he stated that it was more about how life itself is war and we build walls around ourselves as a protection.

"Goodbye Blue Sky" was written as a commemeration to one of Roger Waters relatives (brother?) that was killed in a Nazi bombing raid. This song contains one of my favorite lines in any song, right at the beginning, a young child states: "Look mummy, theres an airplane up in the sky".

Melek~Taus
10-27-2006, 07:49 PM
right on the money. The line I always get in my mind is the "where the hell are you simon" followed by gunshots, crash and then into "Mother."

Blue sky....great song btw

I dunno though. This is set in 2009, as (Jack?) says hes 32 in the first episode, and you see his birthdate later on. So further in the future it could be anyone. Heck, France might have even built an army.. not likely =)

And dont they build nuclear powerplants far away from cities. I didnt think that they would have went off. If it was power plants going off, then US wouldnt have sent missiles back i dont think. ;nuke

We know that at least one was ground-based and relatively small -- I think it was in episode 7 when it was revealed that a 20kt nuke in a truck was intercepted in New York before it could be detonated. How they made their way into the country is unknown. The why and who is also still a mystery. It looks like the Chinese (or someone passing themselves off as China) is behind it or capitalizing on the event, but we don't know anything for sure (and probably won't until next season at the earliest).

Melek~Taus
11-25-2006, 12:53 AM
Not sure if it was China? The "fbi" guy (black) seems to be in on it? or at least knew it was going down. I think a lot of Americans in his type of business knew of the plans...I am kinda thinking it was internal for some reason. They were all ground bases explosions. I don't think it's possible for that many airborne nukes to hit america(NORAD and such)? Anyways, Jericho is losing it a little for me. My new show that seems to be doing much better for me at least is "Heroes"....

Another side note..... If you have a chance, go listen to Night Wish, great band ;)

Who's excited about the upcoming season of the hit CBS drama Jericho!! One of the things i love about that show is the fact that it sort of relates to GEWar. The thought of the whole United States being nuked, isnt even fathomable for most people, but i think thats what makes the show so addicting. I was wondering if I'm the only Jericho fan in GEWar(which i doubt I am), or if there are plenty out there, and if you dont like it why?;ipunk

I wachted 4 episodes and then stopped.

Why?
The first episode I liked.
Then the next ones were ok, but they had this extreme overdone dramatic fake scenes in it.
You know what I mean with that right?
Those typical scenes where you have a dramatic music on the background, and some guy tells a cliché story that makes you want to puke.

Without those scenes, it could be great....but I can't stand it, so I had to stop watching it.
You mostly see those scenes in B-Movies that want a cheapshot to get a tear from the viewer, but instead they get burned.
Those scenes insult the viewer in my opinion. Do they think we are stupid enough to feel the cliché?

If someone can guarantee the cliché's and overdramatic fake scenes stopped, I might be willing to give it another shot.

iverson3
02-12-2008, 12:28 AM
lol, Luke,

Luckily that appeals to me, well in this case, just because i think the whole plot id a great idea

Luke
02-12-2008, 01:21 AM
The plot was what made me watch it initially, so that's ok.

I'm more talking about the tachy scenes in between.

The plot and the whole idea is good...I just can't take those cliche's.

For example:
I love american idol auditions. I think they are hilarious.

But I can't stand what they do in between. They have those scenes where some people tell their life in an overdramatic way. Crying, with some overdramatic music on the background, while they tell how horrible their life has been uptil now. Makes me wanna hurl.
No I am not emotion-less....I just know it's all overdone, just to get you to feel emotional too. Just for the ratings. And it doesn't work for me, beause I know a whole team has been working for days just to get the most out of this moment for the money.

Back to Jericho:
Get some great writers, and you don't need cheap scenes like that.
Series like Doctor Who and Torchwood are known for being tear-bringers, and without the cliché's, so it's not THAT hard.
The plots and idea of the series is good, that's why I said if they stop doing those scenes, I'll start watching again.

iverson3

:rofl there on strike, but ya i agree with you on most of it, it can be quite overdramatic, some of it is ok, but sometimes theres just to much

Wow I never knew about this thread before today. Let me be the first to say I watch barely any television at all but with 3 exceptions..

2.CBS's Ncis
And my favorite of all ... Jericho ;88 ;88 ;88

Luke
02-12-2008, 01:56 AM
and for the rest of you who dont like Jericho

!!!!!NUTZ !!!!!

That would be me then ;)
You gotta admit my reasons have a point though ;)

When you look at those scenes, don't you now think they are a little 'cheap'?

Like the writers were sitting together saying:
"Damn...we really need a scene where people start crying or get goosebumps...
We know it doesn't fit in the current storyline, but just let create a moment.
The viewers are stupid anyway, so they won't notice it's totally cliche."

Like I said twice before: stop those cliché's, and i might join in again.

It's like with Hero's, but there they have the "Lost" problem. They want to create a mysterious storyline, but have no idea where they are going.
Is anyone still watching Lost? I 'lost' my interest in the first season already when I found out they had no idea where they were going...but just liked creating mysteries without knowing what they were themselves.

Oh i totally know what your talking about, i loved the first season of LOST but it was like what the heck, what are they doing, and then it bounces between the past and the present

Luke
02-12-2008, 02:09 AM
I just want writers to respect the viewers more, and not think we are dumb.

They pull the same stuff on most of those series and films, and think we won't notice it.
Start doing the shows you write, and don't lower yourself to cheap shots to get an audience.

I think Jericho has a good shot of being a good show, but as long as they keep doing scenes like that, the show won't air in countries like Holland(where I live), as people hate those scenes too much.
It feels like the writers come up with a decent show and storyline, but the producers decide to enter some scenes to make it melodramatic.

Like Lost: it was immediately moved to an hour and day where nobody watches it because of a lack of viewers. Here we are all critics.

I love Jericho. Im almost addicted, eheh.

Its quite well written, but of course, there is always something that is missing. Its normal. Lost is worse, but I love it too.

And it really creeps me out if it ever happened what did in Jericho. I think the whole world economy would collpase, and the world would face many wars, and hunger..
