View Full Version : Cities that are "too close" to others
What is going on with this???
I've looked at a couple of threads-Turin (Torino), Italy is to close to Milan. Quezon City is to close to Manila. Sacremento is to close to San Francisco. Salem is to close to Portland. And yet-
Rabat is to close to Casablanca, and you add it anyway by moving the city's location! If you'll look the actual location of Rabat is much closer to Casablanca than GEWar says it is . . . .
(I know this thread might belong in another category, but I wish to catch Blitzkreig's attention).
If you can do it for Morocco, can't you do it for other parts of the world?
Zinc, out.
Cairo has also been moved south to make room for Alexandria!
Who agrees with me here?, come on!

Radeon 12-30-2005, 09:09 PM Quit your whining.. There are plenty of cities to take! He moved those cities to make room for more BIG cities..

Both those occasions are accidents. I added the city without checking properly (although I thought Alexandria was ok).
To have an example of spacing write the name of the town into the fly to box in google earth and then zoom out. If the city touches, or has a very small gap between it's grey square and an added cities grey square. It is too close.
As the oopsy cities were already added and there were armies moving toward them I didn't want to delete them as that may cause things to go haywire.
There will be occassions, though less now, where I do this (move the real location) on purpose but it really depends on the situation. For example, Montevideo is the capital and by far the largest city in Uruguay but it was a shade too close to Buenos Aires. It is an important city for the game so I fudged the "realism" rule and added it in a moved location. But for "just another" city in a country, I don't want the geography to be all over the place on a whim.
I hope this rare insight into the mind of the Blitzkrieg will assuage your frustrations.
I don't think your whining, it's a valid point to make.

Blitzkrieg 12-30-2005, 09:52 PM Another example - I don't know if it was me or Beezer (old city adder) placed Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland WAY too close to each other. My solution to this will be to rename Edinburgh to Aberdeen and move it to that location. Keep the population the same though (for a while). And this should open them up.
p0wderfinger 12-30-2005, 09:54 PM Just an idea for when the map becomes really full of closely located small cities. We could maybe reduce army speed for everyone, right now troops move at about the same speed as a 747.
Blitzkrieg 12-30-2005, 10:23 PM Yeah reduce them to a Piper Cessna. :p

You do know that it would take you about 24 hours then to reach your ally at the other side of the world then do you? ;)
Yeah, movement speeds are a tricky one - unless we incorporate.. oh i dont know... some speed and some sleeping pills? speed costs $500 geos and makes your armies travel double as fast (and maybe fight harder too, people on speed go nuts) and sleeping pills cost $50 geos and they slow movement right down (good if your about to go to bed yourself and yu dont want your army getting to a city while you sleep) hahahaha

Sleeping pills, hell yes, I could use one - I've had 3 or 4 hours sleep the last 3 nights, its f#%ing hot here at night, over 26*c and i'm having a hard time sleeping in it...
Speed, I'd never touch the sh!t, what a nasty nasty nasty nasty nasty nasty drug.. Infact, the last time I saw one of my exs I'd flown to Brisbane to supprise him and I found him off his face on it with one of his head****ed mate Id always hated.. needless to say I was on a plane home an hour later and he never came back :p
