Well, I'm not sure if this fits more under new features or alliances, but I think we should have a section of the forum that is just for reporting major news and happenings and battles that have occured. Then, every month or so, we could make a newspaper style newsletter and post it on the front page, you know, that sort of reports on the major news and confrontations and what-not. It would certainly be cool, and help ground the game in reality.
I probably can't do anything like that all by myself, but I'd be glad to help if the community is interested in the idea.

As I said, I'd be glad to help out, so I could certainly write some of it, but I think it would be nice to have more than one person on it.

I'd love to do some writing... sounds fun. Since I have no responsibilities (except to my alliance, of course) :) I'll have plenty of time to work on this.

Can we get some sort of group organized? When i look at people's profiles it always says "this person is not a member of any public groups." Perhaps we can start a public group? I don't know how though :p

There is no comment from aravan though a 100 man army was seen reconning the city defenses as we went to press.

In a scathing attack Lord Umberdude attacked RomulusJ in Washington DC. Slaughter was light as this city was not yet scarred by war in the 14 days the game played. After holding the city for part of a day Cowtreky sent two large armies after Washington and it was again regained by the RCMP alliance

TUKA looses MEXICO City
In a staggering assualt Tuka lost Mexico City and the RCMP have declared martial Law. Sources close to the Mexican overlord hint that vengence will be swift. Cowtreky is reportedly drunk as he celibrates his victory..

NAR LOOSES Top Alliance

In a startling development NAR has lost top alliance spot to the RCMP. NAR sources have said "No Comment" RCMP Sources during heavy drinking and partying are quoted as saying "Awww ****. Now its going to hit the fan."

Nico Evicted from South America
In a further starling turn of events NICO was removed from South America by RCMP Forces. RCMP spokes person Captain Canuk had this to say "Nico put up a determined fight, it was close and RCMP respects his battle skill at one point he defeated over 17,000 troops going after Buenis Aries and intelligence suggests he only had 43 troops left defending it. When RCMP finally did come knocking again 8,000 angry Nicoians gave a stiff resistance."

In fact we were already working on that for a few days and even have a writer for it ;)

Not just alliances. You wanna have the points of view of un allied people also.
Anyway, I'd be glad to help out if you guys have a structure for it in mind.
The main important thing is how often you wanna put one out. If its every day then you don't have much time to organize anything, plus not much happens in one day usually, so I recommend once a week or once a month.

how about a trio of people per continent. That way a player focuses on a continent and if that person is away for a day the other two can pick up?

I'd really rather not see alliance centered propaganda newspaper. Even mine one was panned as biast and I made sure to poke fun at RCMP.

I would say daily if possible - The more often the paper is out the more useful as a source of info. But as a source of analysis and laughs a week might be good too.

Also the newspaper definitely needs to be neutrally presented. Nothing worse than losing a city and having the newspaper saying the population rejoiced after the liberation of XXX by RCMP member blahblahblah. There needs to be an editor in charge to make sure of neutrality. Me fail English, so aks mine not.

Now thinking of the best software to do it with.
I know some bloggers I can install that look like a newspaper, and can be edited online easily so all writers can add their stories easily.

I'd bet 10 Geos without Googling that MovableType has a vBulletin plugin. MT is pretty slick and works very nicely for this kind of thing.

What we could do is have an editorial section, where people can send their rants, and it will be printed on a particular page. There will also be a classifieds section for posting short alliance ads/trash talk. The main "news" part of the paper will be automated based on pre-written form-based articles. And special reports from administrative members can be written ahead of time for the front page or w/e (for special occaisions and such)

Ok, I didn't realize this was actually a new thread instead of just the old newspaper thread renamed. I read some of the mock articles you guys wrote and they were quite amusing. So I think what would be a good idea is to have "special interest" articles which are written specifically by players, recounting their glorious campaigns, or playing guides, or whatever. We could either have a weekly edition that is just for these, or we could publish them daily embedded with the regular newspaper. We would also have a section for "editorial" - replies to these articles, or rants in general. As for reporting things which happen randomly, or frequently, we will be using some sort of script to randomly fill in the details in pre-written articles.
