lol - what's you next geo making idea? Monkey Tennis? ;-)

If I'm going to play Chess, the stakes have got to be worth it ; I can make 30 geos (the profit I would get from winning a game) by jewelling for 2 or 3 minutes.

Me too...not that I've played in about 4 years.

I think that if this happens, the people involved should bet against eachother and place the amount they are willing to pay into a pot with the winner taking all.

Or if we get sufficent interest then lets pay into a pot which the winner takes with maybe something for the finalist as well.. 3 min games!!

Yes, or a complete knockout tounament where everyone puts into the pot with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize at the end

Have a time limit for each turn?

You cannot really stop them unless someone with soem experience analyses the game moves, but if we have a 3 min time limit for the each game, where people win if the other's time runs out then it may make it difficult for people to cheat.

Well, I'm not interested in playing, but I'll analyse the games afterwards to look for cheats.

Thanks Euler.

All now remains is for someone to set this up.

1. Agree participation fee - I suggest 50-100 geos, then collect it.
2. Agree game format i.e. time limit such as 3 0, 4 0 or 5 0
3. Pairings for people wanting to enter
4. Place to play, I suggest FICS -Free Internet Chess server- an interface can be downloaded and user id created, can even play as guests but guest numbers change every time you logon.
5. Start a new thread or edit this one to advertise GEWar chess tournament. Thread should be used for updates, participant list and results etc..

and we should be good to go.

No. 3mins means 3mins total per player inwhich to complete your moves.
ie. You have 3mins worth of moves in which to win. First person whose time runs out, loses.

And hopefully everyone will be honest...but then again, computers are beatable...

At very short time controls, computers are pretty unbeatable actually ; they dont make many mistakes compared to genuine human players.

I am not very good ..

It's extremely hard to say how good one is in chess unless we all had ratings to give a gyuideline but we dont ....If peopel do have ratings then they should post them.. I reckon I am about 1300 in fast chess and around 1600 in standard longer version.

Let's just play it and see how it pans out. Either way teh best one is going to win..
