View Full Version : Interest deposits in your useable funds
Interest is no longer deposited in your bank.
This should help on the compound interest problem, and also your troop upkeep costs.
It now goes directly to your available geos.
Radeon 12-27-2005, 06:18 PM I like the change!! Good thinking!

What was the problem with compound interest?
What was the problem with compound interest?
Nothing important. Financial overview just didn't calculate the interest being deposited every 5 minutes.
It just calculated 3.75% over a whole day(from what you have in the bank), but that was ofcourse too low as you receive interest every 5 minutes.
I think this is way better, it keeps the troops happy ;)

Really? Either you haven't been here long or you're REALLY easy to please.
Could be an interesting side poll though, what is everyone's favourite feature?
Generic42 12-28-2005, 04:41 AM Yeah, I havent been here long and I havent seen the stock market yet, but a poll sounds fun, and would let you know what people like to have in GEwar.
I'll put one up in a sec :)

Yeah, totally man. If I didn't have to spend 2.5 freaking seconds at the bank each day, I'd get so much done. :p
All those ques man, they're killer.. pack a sleeping bag and food & water.

WaywardTraveller 12-28-2005, 01:08 PM I have to say that this is the only new change I do _not_ like.
Where in the world do you get interest that isn't directly added to the account and compounded? If I go away for a week, the bank is the ONLY safe place for your money. Low rate of return, but safe. Now it's safe, but an even LOWER rate of return.
I strongly believe bank interest belongs being deposited to your bank account and compounded.
Everything else makes sense being transacted manually, but not this. I see no good reason, or benefit for anyone, in doing this.
I'll refer you now to my sig.
There were a lot of complains Wayward, about the bank interest going directly to the bank.
This because of the army upkeep cost.
People rather had just a little less money on interest, then their armies dying because they forgot something.
As saving without cities isn't possible anymore, the armies in the cities are more important to people then a very little extra money.
It's also a good way for people to start investing in bonds instead of just using the bank interest. Little extra management.
It might not be the most realistic thing in the game, but neither is hunting for jewels ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad to not be hunting for jewels. But I do really think that the more important thing here is troop and finance management. If you have more troop expenses than your income, that shoud be a problem, that should be _your_ problem to manage. You created the situation, you should have to manage it.
Now I and all the others have to pay for the lazy people that don't want to manage the consequences of their decisions. Thus, I am forced to on their behalf.
Why do the lazy people win this one and the people trying to be smart players lose?

I understand what you say and thought about it.
But on the forum as well as in PM, about 80% wanted the bank interest not to be deposited in the bank.
And they still have to manage it, as in most cases, bank interest only won't be enough to pay for the upkeep costs.
But for us this was also easier. We didn't need to calculate compound interest in the financial overview so 2 problems were solved in 1 strike.

Of course they don't _want_ to have to manage this. What percentage of players do you think would agree that your resources should be auto-placed every 36 hours? Or that you should be able to set armies on autopilot to take cities overnight?
There has to be something left to manage in the game. That is afterall what the game is, is it not?
I truly feel this was the wrong decision made for the wrong reasons.
Don't get me wrong, I know you're sitting there going 'Why does he care so much? It's a few measely geos a day'. It's not the impact of the change that has really got me concerned, though I don't like that either. My concern is that in my mind this decision goes against what this game is and could make it easier to make further decisions in the future that have a greater negative impact on the management features of the game.
I'll drop it now, I've voiced my opinion.
I was actually for putting bank interest in the bank.
But too many users weren't.
As this didn't effect the game in either a real negative, nor positive way, I don't think it's a bad decision.
With all those new features and changes coming, members will have a lot of managing to do already.
ps: I was against compound interest every 5 minutes, because thats just as unrealistic(and dangerous in the future) as interest in your wallet.

I'm against compound interest every 5 minutes as well. Agreed that that is unrealistic.
I think my biggest problem with this is that there are now tonnes of choices for active players, but it's now harder again if you go away for a week.
And if you ever add in stealing from players by attacking home bases, this will REALLY need to be looked at again.
The banks supposed to be your safety net, and it's all but useless now.
Obviously, there shouldn't be a benefit to stashing your money in the bank and going away, but things are _really_ leaning towards benefiting those that can play 10 hours a day every day.
Just promis me you'll keep this open for further debate in the future. I'm not pissed about this, and I don't believe it's a serious negative at this point, but I am worried about overall balance and the trend this sets for future decisions.
Anyways, either way I'll adjust to getting by on the new features to compensate. And necessarily pile a pissload of troops in my cities if I every go away.
