Okay I don't know if this idea has already been brought up but say you have an alliance you make another agreement with alliance saying you won't attack them if they won't attack you now we all know that this goes on but right now it is only in words now what would be great is say somebody is about to attack another person but their alliance made a pact with that person however the attacker doesn't remember or know about this so he attacks. This could be prevented if you had a feature that allowed pacts to be seen by those involved in the pact so that they know not to attack the other person. I had other ideas that could be incorporated into this but right now I can't remember any of them. Please point out any flaws you would see in this and I will try and smooth out this idea.

mmm, I'm not sure.
I think thats the good thing about it.
Then it's all about communication.
And as in real life as possible betrayal.
The alliances are made for the real alliances, and the rest should just be in words...well thats how I think about it.
What does the rest think?

Yeah but in real life their are treaties signed that we can actually see so it would be realistic and people could still betray but they wouldn't accidentally betray and then if they said they accidentally attacked us we would know they are lying as it would have told that person they have a peace treaty with that person or alliance.

I've been thinking of some ideas in this area.

2 parts to this:

First part:
City/army coloring. I'd like to suggest a different set of colors for cities where there are alliance members en route, or parked outside. Suggest blue and green. (blue en route, green there)
Use yellow/red for non-alliance info.

(It'd be nice to have your army row's use a similar color scheme, so at a glance on army page, you'd see that you're outside ally city, headed to non-ally, etc...but that's it's own issue.)

Second Part:
Add new 'My Allies' feature, that is per-person.
Anyone added to your 'My Allies' list will get treated as if a member of your alliance when city coloring occurs.

This is just the tip of a huge amount of ideas I have in this area, I'd actually like to see all of this rolled into a single 'hud' kind of interface, but specifically, these ideas could probably get into GEWar without too much trouble at this point.

I've always wanted your alliance members to not turn your cities red, there should be different colors for friendly troops enroute

I agree with Wayward and Brodie. When the subject of alliances first came up in the early days, I was vehemently on the side of not having anything enforced by code and having everything handled the old-fashioned way of plain old communication. That left open the real-world possibilities of backstabbing, lying and stupidity. Not that there'd be any of those in this game, of course.

No, there's one at the end there, but that is one impressive run-on sentence. Nice job, Zig. :)

I think this is a good idea because then to backstab, you would build up your forces, cancel the treaty, and attack. Maybe have a history for treaty breaking in their profile too.

the idea of browser games is that people who know the rules, and what is happening have an edge.

so the regular people would know who to trust/fear/not turn your back on.

not everyone should be aimed at making this game playable in 2 minutes a day.

I also think this would mean that eventually you'd just have 3 groups:

Alliance nr 1
Alliance nr 2
People without an alliance.

If alliances can now choose to actually make an alliance with an alliance, where is the end?
I was even for an alliance limit. Just to make it a little harder on alliances.
My advise would be to start a secret forum on either Yahoo or Gewarriors where you keep that info. NAR did that and it worked.

I think friendly fire should be allowed. Also an option to turn friend/foe colors on/off (blue for allies, red for enemies) -like in Age of Empires- would be good.

But as far as not being able to attack freinds/allies goes, this should not be coded. There should be some form of communication instead.
