Just wanted to see what the general opinion out there in GEWar-land is on the topic of resource conversion rates.

Every round we see a long period of saving. Whilst I think this would always happen to an extent because of the magical 40k geo level for maximum interest, the likelihood of resource conversion rates changing massively contributes each round. Luke said at the start of this round that resource rates would be lower and troop upkeep higher for the initial weeks of this round. Personally, I'm holding on to resources in the hope the conversion rates will go up and I dare say many others are too.

In addition, specific dates like GEWar's anniversary are also well known for massive resource rate increases. Whilst I don't deny this adds to the fun of the game, it also causes many players to sit waiting and saving resources in anticipation of a rate increase, rather than fighting. Even the most active players do this and I can't help but feel that the lack of fighting activity outweighs the potential fun gained by the extra geos.

My opinion is that the rate should be set to the standard for that round at the start of the round. In addition, anniversary dates shouldn't be acknowledged with resource rate increases, but maybe with a lump sum gift of uranium or geos per player instead. Admins could then fluctuate the resource conversion rates "randomly" throughout the round, ensuring that fun can still be had with extra geos, but not in a way that would be planned for with inactive saving.

Thoughts?

Resource price should raise day by day, and the day before reset is the highest day. Special days will contribute the special part. That's my opinion.

not ignoring this thread.. I have just posted my ideas on it so many times really no need to do it again.

they should fluctuate according to the amount sold..

I'm all for giving extras and doing fun stuff so peeps can have more geos but not when it benefits some more then others. I like what RM suggested about the anniversary - no increase on resources but rather a standard rate of geos, uranium or whatever for every player.

I think continually fluctuating rates would be ideal (hardest to code yes) but in terms of playing the odds that if you convert your diamonds today at .75, and they could be at .95 tomorrow, or .5 would be an exciting risk, same with other resources, the more of them thats sold, the lower the price goes the next day.

yeah always wanted it for the stock market too... but it is a good dream..

I like the random (make it more random) huge price bumps.. but I do not think people who play once a week should get rewarded. resources take effort, let the people who plant em be rewarded.

Prices should change based on the amount of said resource in the field of play...Kind of like the percentages for resource cities.

Of course, I'm the guy that wants the 24 hour planting mechanism gone. I think people should be able to plant whatever whenever, and instead the price of fields/mines goes up with each one planted.

I'm also the guy that think people should be able to upgrade their mines/fields so they produce more of a resource.

most importantly you are the guy that can make it all happen

I've seen the increase/decrease rate depending on how much is "in play" at that moment in time idea before and I liked it then, still like it now it's been raised again. Seems very sensible and gets my vote.

The abolishment of 24 hour planting eh? Sounds interesting, especially with the ideas mentioned around how it could work. Would be very interested in hearing the specifics should the idea ever come to fruition.

What about the special occasion increases though? Not sure I explained this point well in my original post, but these increases concern me because in my opinion they seem to cause long periods of less/low activity in order for players to stockpile resources in anticipation of them. The main times this happens is the first 2-4 weeks of a round, GEWar's anniversary, and Christmas. Any thoughts on how to get the best of both worlds here so that special occasions can still be celebrated, the start of a round isn't ridiculously unfair, and so that the fun element of making some extra geos is kept going, but also so that game activity doesn't drop in the weeks/months leading up to these occasions?

Maybe it's just me who sees an issue with this point, I don't know, but I'd just like to see if anyone else sees the same angle I do.

For resources why not use real time real world market prices which are readily available.
Swap diamonds for gold & fish for fish meal or swap coal for fish since Australia is the 4th largest coal producer. Letting us test our skills speculating on a real market would certainly add some educational value to the game.

I'm with you rage, nothing more frustrating then fighting your butt off all reset and then the opponent that you've crushed and has owned nothing comes back becuase they saved all their resources as zero'd donators

I am waiting for the resource conversion rate to be higher than what it is being sold for on the market. That way it will be easy profit... I will just need to keep it quiet so no one else will think of it... if it ever happens :D
