View Full Version : Forum profile and GEWar profile
hurcoll 02-22-2006, 10:04 PM Sometimes when you are reading the forums you would like to know what kind of players are posting.
If you are at the GEWar page and you click on a players name you can see how many cities the player holds, total armies, armies at base, alliance and if you are a donator, messages of last actions, also you have a link to view the players public profile from the forums.
On the forums page if you click on a players name you get the forums public profile but no direct link to the aboved mentioned GEWar profile with the players status at the game. Many times in order to put the players post in context it is useful to know how is that player doing in the game.
So, here is my feature sugestion: have a link in the public profile to the GEWar profile page.
Any thoughts?
Ekoe10 02-22-2006, 10:07 PM You can access it really easily with the homebase kml file for Google Earth. It's all alphabatized, anyway.
hurcoll 02-22-2006, 10:11 PM I know, but you don't always have access to GE, many players are in computers where GE can not be installed...
It's a good idea, but I don't know if it's technically possible within vBulletin.

Should be easy just to add a link in the options "View Users GEWar Details" All it would be would a link to the GEWar game loading that users details.

Maybe I should have speficied that I don't know if it's technically possible to have it automatically populated in the user profile in vBulletin. Sure we can go through and manually add a link for each and every user, but who wants to do that?

I dunno if it's possible but I would love it if it was.....
PvUtrix 02-23-2006, 03:38 AM easily possible it's a matter of editing the forum template and adding a link, you have the user ID variable already there (used in the forum profile link for instance)
Yeah I thought of it before.
I'll get working on that later.
Shadownation 02-23-2006, 03:24 PM Sounds good, there have been many times after reading a post on the forum then thinking 'hmm... I wonder which cities they own' etc, and then had to go to great lengths to find them on the top players list...
I'd love this feature.
PvUtrix 02-23-2006, 04:56 PM Yeah I thought of it before.
I'll get working on that later.
it takes 5 seconds here's what you do:
1) go to admin control panel
2)Go to styles and templates -> style manager
3)Edit templates
4)Member info templates -> MEMBERINFO
5) find this line
<div style="font-size:18pt">$userinfo[musername]</div>
6) change it to this
<div style="font-size:18pt"><a href="http://www.gewar.net/war/playerinfo.php?user=$userinfo[userid]">$userinfo[musername]</a></div>
7)Save
DONE! now when some1 clicks the username on the profile page he will go the the profile in GEWar
Shadownation 02-23-2006, 05:17 PM I'm sure he knew what to do, you're not the only one with computer skills. ;)

I was only trying to help... and thank you I am aware that other people have computer skills as well, but not everyone has time to poke around, instructions never hurt somebody... while pointless insults do...
I did this, and actually also added the link in the popup when you click on someones name also :)

thanks!!!!!!!
apollosmith 02-24-2006, 08:18 PM EDIT: Forget all this, I didn't read page 2 before posting. Well, it might be of interest to someone, so I'll leave it.

I think this would be a great feature.
There is, however, a relatively easy way to do this already. The user id's are the same in the gewar page and on the forums, so if you just click on the users forum profile, you can copy the id and then add it to the end of the GEWar profile page.
For instance, your two profile pages are
http://www.gewar.net/forums/member.php?u=95
and
http://www.gewar.net/war/playerinfo.php?user=95
Bookmark these pages for quick access to anyone's profiles, just change the number at the end as appropriate.
Brendo 02-24-2006, 08:26 PM I like it. Very useful. :bow
and ABOUT TIME :p
