Luke,
is there going to be a list of implemented changes put out? I see there's no army splitting and haven't run into intercept yet so I'd assume those are not up... whats changed?
thomas85
06-02-2010, 09:25 PM
No bank transfers, and bank interest was adjusted and probably some smaller things...
Full list and explanation coming very soon.
As for army splitting and interception....we didn't want to hold the reset off longer than this, and the rest of the features can be introduced during the round. But these right now had to be done at the start for the stability of the game.

I covered most of the changes in the blog section (hate losing stuff in the forums). you can see it right here (http://www.gewar.net/forum/blog.php?b=73).

awesome thanks guys! I actually had an idea that may be hard to implement (you tell me) but it would also really help new players. There should be a system that when a player first joins they can plant resources more frequently then existing players, this slowly decreases back down to where everyone else is. So take for instance we used to be able to plant every 36, have n00bs be able to plant every 24, or 24 for players that have been playing a while and 12 for newcomers for a certain period of time.

The Game is still freezing on the hour
I'm going to have to go deeper into that. Perhaps I forgot or didn't know about an auto-backup being made every hour.

the forums are accessible during the freeze
but http://www.gewar.net/war/index.php freezes for 2 minutes every hour on the hour

so basically almost nothing changed? The interest thing is the only thing. If you want to transfer money you can pretty much still do that true to market by selling 1 thing for a ridiculous amount and just sell it back for nothing. The 500K is almost impossible to make so you can just scratch that.

there is a big cron that runs every hour to update data. While updating ,the page freezes during a maximum of 2 minutes, but if you wait, your last action will be done when freezes finish.

This should be most important to 'fix' imo, it's just like bank transfers in the end so what's the use of taking that away when you have the market...
Trust us....that was next on our list. But we couldn't hold off the reset any longer. So a solution to that is coming.
I believe that admins can check into that and maybe make it a rule that u cant? Anyone who uses that strategy could be banned maybe? Just an idea... I dont think it's too hard to find. Would just have to be put in the rules.

always something to complain about...you people never cease to amaze me...
Let me cover it this way...
- We know the market "could" be used to EXPLOIT the game.
- We are working on something, but haven't had the time to finish (we actually have a life).
- If it becomes a problem, which it obviously is 24 hours later...we will take swift action to stop it (yes...read into that because it's what I mean).

Complaining on the staff forums isn't the right place then... damn then where are they supposed to go! And since we have this forum here to talk about things we bring it up for you guys to look at and yes sometimes it'll be complaints, can't always be about how wonderful everything is :o
*And thanx for the dense comment, I remember a time when I said that (not even to someone but an alliance) and was removed from staff, good to know what you think of me though

I have explored this issue before. And I think the best solution to curb abuse is set prices. Make the market a black market. For example fish. Can buy at say 2x convert value but only if people have offered for sale. Since any sale would take from all people offering would be hard to abuse. So in other words u can put stuff on market but not choose the price.
Spywareagen7

or just have a price cap for all resources
Starbuck

or just have a price cap for all resources
Yeah wont this be easiest ?
We are exploring several ways to go with this. Fee, cap or delay. Personally I still think a delay could be fun. Never knowing when your market sale will be public, means you never know who will buy it.
Peonboss
06-03-2010, 03:04 PM
Price cap won't stop abuse. But every purchase spread tween all sellers would. Price cap will just make em do the transfers more often.

Btw my idea also allows the market to be set up to fluxuate due to supply and demand. And is almost imposablr to get around.

This may be a future thought, but for now we will probably delay and maybe do an average +-% (ex: average oil is 2 geos...using 10% then the new price can be 1.9-2.1 geos per barrel). Using average and then +- means that people could bomb the market and make it worthless to use, but all's fair in war.

As long as player 1 can put something on market and tell player 2 the amount it will be abused. Price fixes just determine if they do it once a day or 10 times. To solve issue any purchase should be split by all people trying to sell. But no worries.
Gotta agree with Peon on that one

i personally don't think it's an issue that needs to be fixed, which is why I don't really like any of these ideas, even the cap idea sucks.

I will have to agree, before the reset I put 500 fish on the market and sold it for 10,000 per barrell... That's crazy and I made 5mill per day lol
peons got the best solution for this imo :)

I'm about to say something surprising.....
*Clears throat*
Peon is absolutely right!
His solution here is the only way to stop the system being abused and it's pretty much impossible to break and gain benefit from. However, I see Prophet's point that it wouldn't be a quick solution and would need some coding time - it's still a good idea though.
As an additional idea as an extension for a short term, quick solution - how about removing the ability to put fish, cotton, and diamonds on the market? I can't see why anyone would buy these on the market unless it was to transfer geos. It also means that if people do abuse the system, they're having to do it by selling uranium and oil which are valuable and useful resources. Like I say, this needs to be an extension of a "proper" short term solution, but it would at least make people think twice about doing it and cuts down the extent to which transfers can happen.

I like peon's idea, but it requires some exploring. Basically, it takes part of the control out of the player's hands.

This was not all my idea. This idea came from many thoughts the alpha crew tossed around. And I would think 90% of it would be very easy codeinh compared to what we have now. But anyways, proh and tohan worked this idea out with me long ago. They deserve credit too

Take away part of the control and you take away the ability to abuse it.

I have had to go to a school function every weeknight for three weeks now I think and so far 5 concerts. 3 kids going to new schools, and I think something like 23 teachers so far to meet and discuss next year with. All u got to do is feed, change, and cuddle. I'll trade anytime. Hehehe. And MSG me a pic.

A delay is rubbish, but I like the %.
You sell resources to make geo$ but never know if or when it can be sold? OMG - a joke :rofl
I'm open to all ideas.
The delay was just an easy fix. I don't think it's a joke. There'd just be a few hours before your sale would be online. Just to make sure people can't communicate with eachother to buy their cheap oil/cotton/fish/diamonds/uranium the moment they put it up for sale.
To stop people creating fake accounts/get friends to just plant resources and pass them on to other accounts.
Putting your oil up for 0.01 geos just to pass it on to another account could very well mean a whole different alliance would get to buy it. So by saying 'you never know if or when it can be sold' means you didn't understand what we meant.
But as said, that is just one of the ideas, a simple one, but open to all ideas that would truly mean the end of abusing the market.

Something else that I just noticed...
I logged out and when I logged back in I were in the forum section of the game, when I clicked on play I had to log in again... Don't know if this is a known 'thing' or not but I haven't noticed it before today??
Strange that you have to log in twice, once to get to forum and when you want to access the game part you have to log in again

Yes, this is a low priorty bug that has been ongoing since the new version was implemented. I think it happens more often depending on what browser you use.

This is also the same on Windows 7 and Macs I believe. The browser window opens up in a new tab/window, rather than in the bottom half of the GE screen itself.

for Win7 users: right click your GE shortcut, click properties. Go to the compatibility tab. Run in compatibility mode for windows XP. restart GE. go to tools>options>general tab: you should now be able to uncheck viewing web results in an external browser.

…The interest rate is 10% for the first 5000 geos, 7.5% for the next 5000 geos, 5% for the next 10000 geos, 2.5% for the next 20,000 geos and 0.01% for the rest. The numbers may change as we get more feedback from coders/admins, but that’s what they look like now.
Interest for first 5K is now 3%? how are the rest of the percentages affected by this change?
I would assume that this change, accompanied by the Jewel price increasing by roughly 150% is "coders/admins" realizing that starting funds were too high to not reward players better for jeweling?
