WaywardTraveller 02-08-2006, 08:11 PM OK, since Rabbit Hunt was a success on it's limited scale, I'm now going to take this to the next level. Don't know what I'm talking about? Read this thread: http://www.gewar.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1273
This round of Rabbit Hunt will involve some changes to get more people involved, extend the timeframe a quite a bit, and hopefully up the reward significantly.
This round will be played across the entire world. Waypoints will be hours apart instead of minutes apart.
The Waypoint system will change a bit to make it difficult for people to sit at a homebase and wait for the rabbit to arrive:
The rabbit will always be travelling towards a target.
The actual waypoint will be somewhere along the path between the rabbit and it's target.
When the rabbit is directly over it's actual waypoint, it will redirect to that homebase, land there, and wait until the next server update. (IE: It will be there up to, but no more than 5 minutes)
The actual waypoints will still be predetermined.
Expect this next rabbit to be making stops all over the world!
Other than that, it is still first one to kill the rabbit wins.
OK, now, to allow more people to be involved, here's how this game will proceed:
This game will cost 25 geos to participate in this time. (Sorry, no more freebies! But the pot should get MUCH bigger)
The game start time will be announced sometime within the next 25 hours. By 5pm EST Feb 9th 2006. The game will start sometime within 12 hours after that, exact time will be announced.
To play, you must deposit 25 geos in my account before that time, and PM me with the transaction details, and your intent to play in this round.
The winner will take the whole pot. I will be keeping no part of the pot at this point.
Note a couple points: This round could easily take a couple days to play out, and will be played out across the entire board, so EVERYONE should be able to participate :) As well, the more people that play, the bigger the pot. There is no reason the pot couldn't grow to be quite significant indeed!

WaywardTraveller 02-08-2006, 08:50 PM OK, this should explain the new waypoint system, before anyone asks too may questions. It's actually fairly simply, just needs some graphics to help make sense of it.
Pretend there are 25 home bases, arranged on the map roughly like so:

F G H I J
K L M N O
P Q R S T
U V W X Y
Assume Rabbit starts at 'A', it's first target is 'E'. The first waypoint is actually 'D'.
When the Rabbit passes over 'D', it will redirect to 'D' and land for up to 5 minutes.
Now, assume the 2nd target is 'X', and the 2nd waypoint is 'N'. When the rabbit leaves 'D', it will head for 'X'. As it passes over 'N', it will redirect to 'N' and land for up to 5 minutes.
Etcetera.
Clear as mud? Cool :)

I think it would be way too much trouble to try to track everyone's individual armies that way, though it is an interesting idea.
For now at least, it'll remain a free for all. Send as many armies as you like. Tactics are up to you completely :)
I will keep that idea in mind for the future. Next game should include changes to allow for multiple winners.

hurcoll 02-08-2006, 09:15 PM if yiu want several winners you could increase the size of the rabbits army and then pay the percentage of troops killed by whoever attacks the rabbit... nobody would know the size of the army until the first attack where only the attacker would know the size but won't be allouded to send a second army... this could increase the strategy involved in deciding the hunter army...

Yep, you're getting at where I'm headed.
Next game (Rabbit Hunt III) I believe will require hunters only use 100 man armies, and the rabbit will be bigger than 100 men.
First hit gets 20% of the pot
Most damage total gets 30% of the pot
Last hit gets 50% of the pot
But I'll keep Rabbit Hunt II as first described :)

*I* am willing to send a 2nd army out, (of course making people register again for the 2nd army) That said WT does not like the idea. (I orginally suggested 3 armies - one europe/afrca, One asia, one North/South America) but WT is the founder of the idea I just have to nod and go good idea. He wants to try the system out as he invisions it so I say good on him.
Apprently I'm an Admin of the game too.. Which is cool cause I like this idea.

Your armies can be any size this round. What you do with your armies is completely up to you. The rabbit will be a 100 man army.
The game start time is being announced within 4 hours, the game could start any time within 12 hours of that. So there should be lots of opportunity for everyone to get in regardless of where they live in the rw. As well, this round is going to play out across the entire world, expect the rabbit to be running for at LEAST 24 hours, possibly much more :)

I will also post at that time information about when/how this round will begin. The game will begin within the original 12 hour window given, so that means it will actually start sometime in the next 13 hours and 15 minutes.
The betting pool will also open up at that time :)

The first leg will be HOURS, IE If it takes off from WT's homebase it could in theory land at araT's homebase at the south pole as its first leg.
The if anyone thinks to wait outside Waywardtraveller's, RomulusJs or Wesley's homebase to hit before it takes off the kill won't count.

The list of waypoints for this round will be sent to araT BEFORE the game starts. This is to ensure everyone can feel confident that the route is actually predetermined and not being manipulated as the game progresses.
At the same time, one of RomulusJ's, Wesleys, or my armies will be renamed 'Rabbit' and the game will be on!
As well, the betting pool will be open within an hour! Here's your chance to make some REAL money :) Remember, betting is open to EVERYONE, not just hunters!!!

It is odd... but it's probably just because of the way the army KML is created, or something within GE itself.
I've attached an image with the paths.. The lines are from the KML file, except the one with the tank at the end, which is the army. You can see that the tank is not nearly paralell to the lines that indicate a shortest-path distance from different points along the rabbit's path.

Its probably just moving you +some LAT. +some LON. and that works most the time. but sometimes you want more of one and less of the other to go strait on a round surface.

RomulusJ 02-10-2006, 08:00 AM This might come as a shock. But the Earth is round, thus straight lines are impossible in the game. GE is based on images curved around a 3d Ball grid. Its all beyond me but the Rabbit is correct in its path going over the surface of the earth rather then through it. Making a 3d image into a 2d image and drawing a staight line is flawed as the straight line would go through solid matter.
Curious little optical trick though and something WT, Wes and I have no control over. RomJ

It's headed to Cuba (that's where it seems to be aiming) so it can kill Castro, who's currenty meeting with JFK and Elvis, who will also be killed, because they are going to come forward with proof the moon landing was hoaxed. Those vile rocket scientists.
Oh, and something about freemasons.

example:
The rabbit has to go 5 units north and 4 units west in 2 steps.
1. step: 2 units north and 2 units west
2. step: 3 units north and 2 units west
Both steps don't have the same direction.

Because the Earth is rotating under the armies as they travel.
Use the measure tool and make a line from your start point to an end point. The longer the better and more north-south travel than east-west (if you go over a pole you're really see it). Then send an army to the end. While it's traveling it won't follow the line exactly but when it gets there the lines will match.

I'm afraid this wouldn't explain it unless our armies are in orbit. Google earth doesn't rotate the earth. There's no need, it's simply treated as a static sphere.
It's probably just the way the game makes the KML file. I can't discount the possiblity that the illuminati are involved, though.
It'll be interesting to see when it finally "corrects" course, and/or joins the knights templar.
Also, fischi, one would assume these calculations would be made every 5 minutes since that's how often the army location updates. Thus over the few hours it's been traveling, the line would have averaged out to heading in the generally right direction. That's not the case. Futher proof that Vince Foster was murdered by UFO's. For, um, exposing the majestic 12.

I promise you, he did land at the waypoint, and he always will. As with all animals, the Rabbit is prone to fatigue. It is a good bet that he'll wear down over time, and end up resting for longer periods of time. That's a beast of a bunny though, looks like he's still running strong :)

Oh it was there alright, the judges saw both :)
(Keep in mind, I predicted the rabbit would last quite a while, I'd like to think that he can make it through the course and get into a 2nd lap before he wears out his stamina, hint hint ;) )
There is a bit of luck to it for sure, but just ask aravan, it's possible :)

Everyone's NOT okay!! The attacker killed himself, having impaled himself on his sword. BMs army is dead Jim!
I do not see rules against hunters attacking other hunters so at the moment such attacks are considered Legitimate.

I've realized some problems with running this game in this way. Moving the rabbit around is troublesome, and it's hard to get everyone a fair shot. As well, betting is a no go ;) So I won't be doing _that_ again.
I will be launching the next version, WereRabbit Hunt, soon, which will add some twists that will allow the game to play out longer, with more competition and more excitement!!! More winners too!!!
