You must decode the following, in quotes. This is a way of encoding that I've never heard of anyone else using, I thought it up on my own (several years ago) but it's quite simple.

A MBOW QZMR SZO
XL M TUGHFE KLD JKC DABA

A few hints:
It took me about 15 minutes to encode this.
It's a somewhat famous phrase.
The letters are simply letters- they don't represent anything about # of distinct lines, or anything like that.
It will be necessary to convert the letters to numbers.
The encoding method can be done again and again to make it harder to decode. In fact, if I were really a spy (sigh...) I'd have used this method twice plus added in a few nastry suprises... I think it would have been impossible to decode. Well, unless you knew what I was doing.

You can PM me the answer or post it here. I'll show the way the code works when someone gets it. I'll pos additional hints as need be.

If you want to help each other out in this thread, that's OK (like, if somone posts the number values for each letter, that'd be fine.)

The winner gets 2000 geos.

Have fun!

Edit: I did not use a computer or anything. Took about half a sheet of paper.

It is 1 for 1. There are 10 words in the phrase, the first with 1 letter, the second with 4, etc. It is indeed letter for letter.

The first few hints will make it even more confusing... ;)

ooh this could be hard, maybe he used askii code or unicode to convert the letters into numbers... ;waddle hmmm then how did he convert back into letters that actually makes sense....;explode

random guess at famous quote: "to be or not to be, that is the question"

hmm this seems hard.. i might need a few more hints..

will work on it later tonight..

Is it 1 for 1?

Like are there 10 words in the phrase..?

And is it letter for letter (that is probably too much to hope for);raincloud

Is this a matrix-based encryption ?

I´m gonna ask John Nash to solve this one for me.

I have no idea how to start this one!!!

Do you happen to own a WWII enigma encoder?

First round of hints:
3 of the letters in the phrase are not changed.
A caculator isn't necessary, but might help if you're not into mental math.
Of the 10 words, the two that are 1 letter are the same letter. There is another pair that are identical to one another (which obviously has to be one of the 3 or 4 letter ones).

Besides changing from and to numbers, it's a one-step encryption and decryption.

hmm.. i think i messed up my encoding..

i'm rechecking it.. but i have it down..
i was rushing to get it up be4 anyone else figured it out

you do this by converting the letters to numbers
A=1 B=2 etc..
you get
1 13-2-15-23 17-26-13-18 19-26-15
24-12 13 20-21-7-8-6-5 11-12-4 10-11-3 4-1-2-1

now this is just counting up to 26 and then starting over..
1
from 1 to 13 = 12 steps = L
from 13 to 26 and then to 2 = 15 steps = o
from 2 to 15 = 13 steps = n
etc etc..

It means " A long time ago in a place far far away"

the funny thing is that i was watching episode 5 last night.

ohh yeah oops.. i meant galaxy. crap for some reason when i was posting it up here it changed to place.
goodness i am smart enough to break the code.. but i seem to be so dumb that i cant copy down what i wrote, or even encode a new one back up.

Okay then... our winner is Lenin! Good work, I hadn't expected anyone to solve it that quickly. :)

Since Kath was the first technically right answer, but got there after Lenin had posted correct instructions, he will get a 250 geo prize. Lenin has also graciously offered 500 of his prize geos, so Kath will get 750 geos.

Thanks to everyone who tried!
